While BTS is doing wonders in LA with back-to-back public appearances, the group’s oldest member and the vocal king is holding fort in Asia. Earlier on November 25, it was announced that BTS’ V would feature in an OST for the upcoming K-drama, ‘Our Beloved Summer,’ starring his friend and Wooga Squad member, Choi Woo-sik, who was also seen in the Oscar-winning film, ‘Parasite.’
It seems like BTS vocalists will have to dedicate all of their off-time singing OSTs for K-dramas because fans are certainly loving it. Jin of BTS was the last member of the group to release his first-ever solo OST single ‘Yours’ that was part of the ongoing K-drama ‘Jirisan’ (also known as ‘Mt Jirisan’) for the shows fifth and sixth episodes.

The single ‘Yours’ was officially released on November 7 and has been a viral hit ever since bagging the singer many record-breaking chart positions on global Top 10 lists while also trending on Twitter. It is now officially one of the most heard Korean OSTs ever. On November 25, it was reported that the single from BTS Jin which was officially released in Japan on November 24 has reached the #1 spot on iTunes in Japan within two hours of its release. Charting this high, in record-time, makes Jin the only Korean solo singer to achieve this feat in such a short time in the history of iTunes in Japan. Not only Japan, but Jin’s single has also been rocking iTunes charts, worldwide as the "worldwide handsome" singer took first place on iTunes charts in 96 countries and regions. He was also recorded as the first Asian solo artist to amass these many No.1s in so many countries on iTunes charts. ‘Yours’ also ranked 13 on Japan’s 200 Chart of Shazam as the song became one of the most searched songs, even after 12 days after its release.
Kim Seokjin's powerful vocals highlighted
The power of Jin’s voice is clearly breaking records left, right and center as Japan is the second-largest music market in the world after the US. The OST single has also guaranteed the K-drama, ‘Jirisan’ an even higher rating with the inclusion of the honey-voiced singer in the background.
The single has also debuted at the #1 spot on the Billboard Digital Song Sales chart and entered the Billboard Global 200 chart following its release, making it the first single from a Korean male solo artist song to do so on the two charts.
‘Yours’ also entered the Spotify global chart making it the first Korean OST song to enter the chart on the platform while the single recorded the highest streaming numbers among Korean OSTs in the history of Spotify after its debut. While the success of BTS, as well as Jin, is certain, what is uncertain is the looming decision of the BTS member’s impending military enlistment that is still uncertain. This is because the group's contributions to the South Korean culture and economy might earn the members special exemption from the military. However, all members, including Jin, have said they are ready to serve.
BTS enlistment request dismissed
On November 25, it was reported that the request was directed to the National Assembly Defense Committee of South Korea which sought for an amendment to the Military Service Act in order to allow special military service for pop culture artists who contributed to the promotion of national prestige, such as BTS. The Committee spokesman Boo Seung-chan reported that the bill was put on hold as the committee has still not able to arrive at a decision.
Jin, the oldest member of BTS, would be the first member to enlist in the military if any exemptions are not part of the bill when passed. While that decision is still left in the balance, BTS is set to conquer the world with their second Grammy nomination for their summer single ‘Butter’ as well as their upcoming in-person concert where members will meet fans for the first time in two years for their live in-person concert in Los Angeles.
