With South Korea gradually opening up and accepting the LGBT+ community, we are finally seeing positive representations in media. More and more popular K-pop idol actors are taking up LGBT+ friendly acting projects like SF9’s Rowoon and SHINee’s Minho. In fact, one of the most popular K-dramas at the moment that has all of South Korea buzzing is the BL (boy love) drama ‘Semantic Error starring idols. The main leads are played by former KNK member Seoham and Dongkiz’s Jaechan.

The romantic BL drama ended on a high note on March 10. And while ‘Semantic Error’ fans were revelling in the adorable finale, we had trolls trying to target Jaechan. On March 14 early morning, an anonymous Twitter user claimed that the Dongkiz member had been a school bully. Fans feel that the netizen might have been irked by ‘Semantic Error’s fame since OP (orginal poster) claimed that Jaechan would bully female classmates in elementary school.

Alleged classmates accuse Jaechan

The user also tweeted, “He went around bothering people and doing stupid things with his group of bullies and even smoked in the classroom.” They added that Jaechan “used to think idol fans are pathetic and would bad mouth male idols until he became a Big Hit trainee.” Three more netizens spoke up and shared that Jaechan was the most famous bully in their school and he would rate girls’ faces and bodies and comment on their weight. One claimed that he was thrown out of Big Hit because he would update online how many different girls he met.

However, Dongkiz’s label, Dongyo Entertainment immediately released an official statement sharing that none of the claims was true and they were going to take legal action. They shared, “We have confirmed with the artist involved as well as the people around him and we have concluded that the said argument is not true. Even before his debut, we have already confirmed and checked with his former school that he has no history of problems.” That added that this was not the first time and they had filed a complaint on March 4 for defamation. As of March 14, an investigator was officially on Jaechan’s case.

‘Sounds about homophobic’

Fans were also touched that Dongyo ended their statement by saying, “We will never let any person hiding as an anonymous trample on our artists who are just like flowers starting to bloom.” They also felt that the accusers were targeting Jaechan especially because his BL drama is immensely popular at the moment. One fan tweeted, “Jaechan kissed a man and ppl suddenly trying to ruin his career sounds about homophobic.” Another user posted, “Jaechan kissed a fine ass man and now the media trying to destroy him by saying he had multiple gfs in the past when he was young.”

One fan commented, “Semantic Error is top1 everywhere and someone is jealous our baby JAECHAN.” Another fan joked, “Mfs jealous jaechan pulled.” One added, “FREE JAECHAN‼️ MANS DID NOTHING WRONG YALL R JUST JEALOUS.” Another said, “Because of the success of Semantic Error.” One fan shared, “Who are just like flowers starting to bloom,’ Sure as heck I like that. Pluck the goddamn wild grasses tryna bring them down. Tch.”
