‘Gen V’ drops major Season 3 update and ‘The Boys’ spinoff fans might want to sit down for this one
The universe of ‘The Boys’ is tightening its circle a bit, and fans might need a moment to take it in. Its spin-off series, ‘Gen V’, will not be coming back for Season 3. The series is set to wrap up with its second season, according to confirmation from Amazon MGM Studios. The announcement arrives about six months after Season 2 debuted in September 2025. That news may sting a little, especially for viewers who got hooked on the college setting and its new lineup of supes. Still, the people behind the franchise are making it clear this is not a full goodbye. Executive producers Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg addressed the situation in a statement, hinting that the characters introduced in the spin-off are not going anywhere for good.
“While we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin, we’re committed to continuing the Gen V characters’ stories in ‘The Boys’ Season 5 and other VCU projects on the horizon. You’ll see them again,” they told PEOPLE. So, while the halls of Godolkin University may be closing sooner than expected, the students themselves are far from done. In fact, there’s already talk that some of these familiar faces will pop up in future chapters of the main series. A representative from Amazon MGM Studios backed that up, noting that crossover moments are very much part of the plan.
When ‘Gen V’ first landed in September 2023, it did not take long for it to grab attention. Back then, Amazon pitched it as “part college show, part ‘Hunger Games’—with all the heart, satire, and raunch of ‘The Boys’.” That description pretty much nailed it. The story followed a group of young, power-packed students trying to climb their way to the top at a university owned by Vought International. At the same time, the main series itself is heading toward its own finish line. Season 5 of ‘The Boys’ kicked off on April 8 with a two-episode premiere and is rolling out weekly. The final episode is set to arrive on May 20.
But before anyone starts thinking the entire universe is shutting down, that is not the case. There is still plenty cooking behind the scenes. Amazon MGM Studios has already lined up the next big step with a prequel series titled ‘Vought Rising’, which is expected to arrive in 2027. This new project will bring back Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, Mason Dye as Bombsight, and Aya Cash as Stormfront. Fans won’t have to wait until 2027 to get a taste of what is coming, though. Early hints about ‘Vought Rising’ are expected to show up during the final season of ‘The Boys’. And that’s not all. Another project, ‘The Boys: Mexico’, is still in development. So yeah, ‘Gen V’ Season 3 won't happen, but it is not exactly the end of the road.
