'Deep Water': 5 things you didn't know about Ben Affleck and Ana De Armas
The sub-genre of erotic thriller hasn’t seen a well-made movie since ‘Gone Girl’, which was released in 2014. But it seems Ben Affleck and Ana De Armas have taken the responsibility of giving viewers another intriguing movie in the form of ‘Deep Water’. The upcoming thriller movie from Hulu is based on A book of the same name by Patricia Highsmith and revolves around a wealthy couple that looks like they are really in love with each other.
However, it turns out that the love story doesn’t define anyone’s relationship. The couple has a lot of secrets and they are playing mind games with each other that begin seeing those around them dying. Are they holding back a secret so big that it will change everything? The answer to that question will be given when the movie comes out later this month.

Ben Affleck as Vic Van Allen
Affleck needs no introduction. He has been one of the most influential people in the industry and has worked in numerous high-end ventures. He started acting in theatre productions when he was really young and began his professional acting career with an independent movie ‘The Dark End of the Street’ (1981). However, his moment of glory came in 1997 when he was cast Chuckie Sullivan in the movie ‘Good Will Hunting’, a movie that he co-wrote with actor Matt Damon.
Affleck and Damon won the Best Screenplay accolades at the Academy Awards and Golden Globes. They also won the Humanitas Award for their writing. Since then, Affleck has been a force to be reckoned with and appeared in extraordinary projects such as ‘Shakespeare in Love’, ‘Armageddon’, ‘He’s Just Not That Into You’, ‘The Town’, and ‘Gone Girl’.
In 2012, he directed the blockbuster hit movie ‘Argo’ and took the world by storm. The movie won the Oscar for Best Picture in 2013 while Affleck took home the Best Director trophy at the Golden Globes. The year 2016 saw him playing the iconic comic-book character Batman in ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’. He played the character in ‘Suicide Squad’ and ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ as well.
He’ll don the iconic costume once again for the upcoming ‘Flash’ movie.
Ana De Armas as Melinda Van Allen
The Cuban-Spanish actress always wanted to be an actor and began preparing for it at the age of 14. She enrolled herself in Havana’s National Theatre of Cuba and sometimes hitchhiked to reach there. She began her acting career in Cuba and acted in a variety of projects. Her feature film debut happened in 2006 with the movie ‘Una Rosa De Francia’. Meanwhile, her TV debut came in 2007 with ‘El Internado’ in which she starred for six seasons from 2007 to 2010. The show made her a star in Spain and garnered good reviews.
But she decided to come to Los Angeles and try her luck in Hollywood. Her first Hollywood movie came out in 2015 in the form ‘Knock, Knock’. She starred in the movie alongside Keanu Reeves. In 2016, she and Reeves teamed up for the Spanish-language thriller ‘Exposed’. She received a lot of praise for her acting in Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Blade Runner 2049’.
However, she became a superstar with her role in the 2019 movie ‘Knives Out’. She gained a lot of recognition for her acting and was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress (Comedy or Musical). Armas won the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role.
Last year, Armas became a part of the James Bond universe and played the role of Paloma in ‘No Time To Die’.
Tracy Letts as Don Wilson
Letts is undoubtedly one of the most prolific writers working in Hollywood and his diverse resume is a testament to his success. He began his journey in theatre and did a lot of plays. He wrote a lot of successful theatre plays such as ‘Killer Joe’, ‘Man from Nebraska’, ‘Three Sisters’, and ‘Mary Page Marlowe’.
However, his 2007 play ‘August: Osage County’ brought him a lot of laurels. He won the Pulitzer Prize for the play and went on to win the Best Play accolade at the Tony Awards as well. On the other hand, he won the Leading Actor in a Play trophy for his role in ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?’ at the Tony Awards in 2013.
Since then, he has made appearances in ‘The Big Short’, ‘Elvis & Nixon’, ‘Lady Bird’, ‘The Post’, ‘Ford v. Ferrari’ and ‘Little Women’.
Kristen Connolly as Kelly Wilson
Connolly began her career with recurring roles on several CollegeHumor digital shorts. She first gained mainstream recognition in 2012, after starring as the main protagonist Dana in the film ‘The Cabin in the Woods’. In 2013, she was cast as Christina Gallagher in the Netflix series 'House Of Cards’.
‘Houdini’, ‘The Whispers’, ‘The Wizard of Lies’, and ‘Prodigal Son’ are some of the high-end ventures he has been a part of.
Jacob Elordi as Charlie De Lisle
Born on June 26, 1997, he started his Hollywood journey as an actor by playing an extra in the movie ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man Tell No Tales’. However, his first acting role came in the Australian film ‘Swinging Safari’. In 2018, he was cast as Noah Flynn in the Netflix movie ‘Kissing Booth’. The movie turned out to be a huge hit and spawned two more movies.
He can currently be seen playing the role of Nate Jacobs in the HBO series ‘Euphoria’.
Lil Rel Howery as Grant
Howery began performing stand-up comedy on Chicago's East Side at the Lion's Den. He made his television debut in January 2007 on the reality television competition ‘Last Comic Standing’. Howery won the 2017 "Best Comedic Performance" MTV Movie & TV Award for his performance in ‘Get Out’.
He was recently seen in the movie ‘Free Guy’ along with Ryan Reynolds.
Grace Jenkins as Trixie
The young actress will be playing the role of Ben Affleck and Ana De Armas’s daughter in the movie ‘Deep Water’. She was first seen in the movie ‘The New Neighbor’.
