There's a lot of mystery surrounding Ana de Armas' Paloma in 'No Time to Die'. The upcoming Bond flick sees the Cuban actor essay a flawed CIA agent in the Cary Joji Fukunaga-helmed project. Armas' first look in the trailer had a cloud of suspense around her character.

She will be the latest Bond girl alongside Léa Seydoux and Lashana Lynch (who is also 007 BTW). While 'Blade Runner 2049' may have given her attention, what shot her to fame was her breakout role as Marta in 'Knives Out'.

However, before all this, she was cast in 'Knock Knock' — the 2015 mystery drama alongside Keanu Reeves. And it is safe to say that the film opened the door of opportunities for her. She followed it up with 'War Dogs', played an AI hologram girlfriend in 'Blade Runner 2049 and a nurse in the critically-acclaimed 'Knives Out'. Add to this a string of Spanish films, and Armas has quite an impressive resume. And lest we forget, she is also playing Marilyn Monroe in 'Blonde'.

The uniqueness here is the roles Armas has played and the genre of movies she has been a part of. Thrillers, a bit of horror, spy fiction and crime dramas go all the way to show that the 31-year-old is open to experimenting. Los Angeles Times captures her early years in an exclusive, where it is revealed Armas hails from the small coastal town of Santa Cruz del Norte outside of Havana.

This is also an actor who has played complex roles and Paloma is just one of them. "I wouldn't say she's ordinary, because when she needs to perform her job, she does," Armas said in the interview. "But (she) is flawed. She says what she feels, she's nervous, she's scared. It's human."

"When I read it, I was like, 'Oh, wait — I can be a Bond girl. I'm that. I’m that messy.' That's what felt so attractive, on top of what she's actually doing in the story, which is another step toward giving women a more powerful and strong place in the films," she said. From what we know so afar, Paloma is apparently a CIA agent whom Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright) assigns to Bond in order to assist him with the mission.

Armas' upcoming projects include 'Sergio', 'The Night Clerk', 'Deep Water' and 'Blonde'.

'No Time to Die' releases on April 2 in the UK and April 8 in the US.
