LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Despite the Olympics 2024 in Paris being the center of world attention, Marvel's newest superhero film 'Deadpool & Wolverine' has managed to attract attention, bringing immense delight to the superhero fans.
Excitement was high when the film was originally announced as it was revealed that Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) would make his comeback, as he is depicted in 'Logan' sacrificing his life to rescue a bunch of mutants, including his daughter Laura, alias X-23 (Dafne Keen), leaving fans devastated.
The superhero flick, however, features not only Wolverine but also his several variants strewn over the many timelines, which adds to the plot's intrigue, and introduces a plethora of new Wolverines to the fans.
Deadpool meets Wolverine’s apocalyptic version in 'Deadpool & Wolverine'
After learning that he needs to look for his timeline's anchor being, Deadpool travels through multiple realities featuring different versions of Wolverine.
One version of Wolverine originates from the 'Age of Apocalypse' timeline, where he is referred to as Weapon X. In this incarnation, the earth is ruled by the Apocalypse with an iron fist.
Additionally, in this dystopian future, Wolverine has disheveled hair, wears a blue jumpsuit, is without one hand, and enjoys a love connection with Jean Grey.
'Deadpool & Wolverine' also introduces 'Old Man Logan' to the fans
In another alternate reality, a version of Wolverine known as 'Old Man Logan', with graying hair and a stetson appears. This Wolverine hails from an alternative dimension where supervillains cooperate to exterminate their competitors.
The villains launched a catastrophic assault on the Xavier Institute, culminating in a terrible bloodbath by Wolverine.
Unbeknownst to him, Mysterio had fooled Logan into murdering the X-Men. Overcome with shame, Logan swore off using his claws and became a tormented figure. He is eventually encouraged by a blind Hawkeye to trek across the supervillain-dominated United States.
'Deadpool & Wolverine' features a montage of Wolverine's variants
In the montage, numerous Wolverine variations emerge, including Patch, the identity used by Logan to visit the criminal country of Madripoor, and a small Wolverine standing at 5'3" for a hilarious visual comedy.
A prominent version depicts a Wolverine crucified on an X-shaped platform, echoing the legendary 'Uncanny X-Men' #251 cover by Chris Claremont and Marc Silvestri.
Another notable variant has Wolverine in a tan and brown outfit confronting the Hulk, a tribute to his first complete appearance in Incredible 'Hulk' #181 by Len Wein and Herb Trimpe.
This conflict, which took place on behalf of Canada's Department H, was subsequently reprised in Incredible 'Hulk' #340 by Peter David and Todd McFarlane.
The montage also displays the Hulk's effect on Wolverine's claws, paying reference to Incredible 'Hulk' #340's classic cover.
