Louis van Amstel is a renowned Dutch-American ballroom dance champion, choreographer, and also professional dancer who has been an integral part of the 'Dancing with With the Stars' since Season 1. While the pro has been garnering plaudits for his stellar acts in the past many years, very few people know about his personal life. Like many other celebrities, Louis keeps his personal life under wraps.

While he readies himself to wow the judges and the audience with his spectacular dance performances alongside celebrity contestant Cheryl Ladd in 'Dancing with the Stars' Season 31, we take a look at his love story with his husband Joshua Lancaster.

Louis and Joshua four-year long distance relationship

Louis and Joshua met each other at a bar in Los Angeles, near which Amstel lived whenever he was shooting for 'Dancing with the Stars'. This couple instantly hit it off. They dated each other long-distance for four years, from 2009 to 2013. After their long-distance relationship, Joshua permanently shifted his base from Austin to Salt Lake City with Louis.

According to PEOPLE, Louis got hitched to his health coach boyfriend Joshua in Sundance in Utah. The couple exchanged their vows in a snowy wedding ceremony. 



 

In an interview with the outlet, Louis said that the two of them always wanted a winter wedding in Sundance in Utah. He said, "We wanted a winter wedding."



 

Louis also shared how Sundance was "their place" which was like an unsaid private tradition between the duo. He said, "Sundance happens to be one of the private, romantic traditions between the two of us, so it seems only fitting to host the wedding there."

Louis also added that their main aim was to make it a memorable experience for all their friends and not just a single decorated room. Louis revealed, "We had a whole group of wedding party in mumus and Uggs on Sunday morning to stamp down the snow. We wanted it to be an experience, not just a decorated room."



 

'Dancing with the Stars' Season 31 premieres on Monday, September 19, on Disney+ at 8pm ET.
