Alongside the growing popularity of K-pop and the rise of Hayllu, many other entertainment-based industries in South Korea are finally getting the recognition they deserve. Korean movies and K-dramas have seen an upsurge in terms of popularity since the start of the pandemic with new fans from around the world hunting for new content.

All attention has ended up being directed towards South Korean offerings with Netflix releasing ‘Itaewon Class’, ‘Crash Landing On You’ and more, making fans look forward to such shows. With K-dramas, has come the Korean OST wave, somethings K-pop fans see as a freebie they can enjoy, especially with many popular idols being roped in to sing these tracks. The single, ‘Start’ or ‘Start Over’ from Gaho which was part of the K-drama, ‘Itaewon Class’ had charted at the number one spot on the Gaon Digital Chart immediately after its release. Now Jin (Kim Seokjin), a member of BTS, the biggest K-pop group, and quite possibly the biggest music act in the world, has sung the OST track 'Yours' for the third part of the K-drama, ‘Jirisan’ or ‘Mount. Jiri.’ Given how much ARMYs (BTS fandom) love Jin and his 'silver voice', it is no surprise that the song has become an overnight success.

Jin’s ‘Yours’ breaks records

Jin, the oldest member of BTS, hasn't sung for anyone other than BTS' label HYBE (formerly Big Hit Entertainment). The only exception was when he appeared on the 2016 'Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth' sountrack alongside fellow BTS member V (Kim Taehyung) in a duet. So Jin singing 'Yours,' the OST single released as part of the fifth and sixth episodes of the tvN drama ‘Jirisan,’ was a big deal. It is Jin's first solo OST single. ‘Yours’ has since become a worldwide phenomenon, breaking many iTunes records overnight. It also became the biggest Spotify debut for a Korean OST.

Jin topped the worldwide iTunes song chart for three days in a row with ‘Yours,’ followed by Psy's ‘Gangnam Style’ and ‘Gentleman,’ as the most popular song with Korean lyrics. 'Yours' also became the fastest solo song to grab 50 Number 1’s on iTunes' charts within 2 hours of its release. The solo song has now become a hot topic of discussion as fans from all over the world are listening to the single and talking about it online. What is more, Jin's song has become a hit despite receiving no official promotions from his label for the song.

‘Yours’ also trended on the Billboard's Hot Trending Songs chart at Number 5 over the last seven days following its release and became the fastest Korean solo OST to reach 5 million streams on Spotify.
