BTS 'Butter' tops Billboard Hot 100 for 10th week, declared Song of Summer for 2021
The number 1 boy band in the world just keeps bettering themselves and it seems has no plans to stop. BTS may have released their last full-length album almost a year ago but their all-English singles and older songs are making up for the time they are probably spending on new music.
With no certain news of new music from BTS, fans are going back to their old favorites as they keep relistening to songs from BTS and charting old hits as they wait for the boys to release new music.
The Billboard Hot 100 charts became a controversial topic in the fandom after members of the group were asked if they thought the ARMY was manipulating charts by streaming a lot. As audacious as the question was, RM, leader of BTS, gave the interviewer a befitting response that fans were proud of. Soon after the interview was released, fans were angry at such accusations, but it all worked in favor of BTS as they just reclaimed the number 1 position.

The original version of ‘Butter’, which was released on May 21, reclaimed the #1 spot on Billboard Hot 100 and appeared on the top for the 10th time since its release.
The ‘Butter Remix’ that was released on August 27, and featured Megan Thee Stallion, did not make it to this chart but held the #3 spots on Billboard's two other charts - Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global (Excluding United States). Not only ‘Butter Remix’, the Billboard Global (Excluding United States) saw BTS’ other hit single, ‘Permission to Dance’ at #10.
With its re-entry into the Billboard Hot 100 charts, BTS’ ‘Butter’ becomes the 40th Single in the 63-year-old history of Billboard Hot 100 to spend 10 weeks at the top of the chart.
Summer Song of 2021
If that was not enough, BTS also becomes the first group in a decade to be selected as Billboard's Number 1 Summer Song of the Year. ‘Butter’ becomes the first single to win the song of summer title by a duo or group in a decade, according to Billboard. The last time Billboard saw a duo/group atop the chart was when LMFAO’s ‘Party Rock Anthem’ featuring Lauren Bennett and GoonRock ruled in 2011. It’s also the first song to sweep a season since Lil Nas X's ‘Old Town Road’ featuring Billy Ray Cyrus reigned supreme in 2019, which was followed by ‘Rockstar’ by DaBaby feat Roddy Ricch in the year 2020.
