The 78th Golden Globe Awards kicked off with much fanfare on Sunday, February 28, with comedians Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosting the ceremony from two different locations, marking the first bi-coastal event in the history of the awards show.

Fey hosted the ceremony from New York City's Rainbow Room while Poehler was present at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. All eyes were on the Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy category and the winner was 'Borat Subsequent Moviefilm'. The other nominations for the category included: ''Hamilton', 'Music', 'Palm Springs' and 'The Prom'. Sacha Baron Cohen's film became the second sequel to win this category, following 'Toy Story 2' (1999).

Sacha Baron Cohen: I’m talking about Rudy Giuliani

Sacha Baron Cohen took a jibe at Rudy Giuliani after his win. “Thank you to the all-white Hollywood Foreign Press,” Cohen said accepting the award. “I’ve got to say, this movie could not have been possible without my co-star, a fresh new talent who came from nowhere and turned out to be a comedy genius,” the Borat Subsequent Moviefilm said, adding “I’m talking about Rudy Giuliani. I mean, who can get more laughs out of one unzipping? Incredible.”

"How nice of @SachaBaronCohen to thank bat-shit Rudy Giuliani for his role in #Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, best motion picture comedy. Can someone let Rudy know. #GoldenGlobes," said a fan. "Borat Subsequent Moviefilm won best Comedy on Golden Globes. AND Sasha Baron Cohen won best actor!!!!!! That is a great thing!!!!! A movie and an actor that is considered very offensive won. LOVE THIS!!!!!!" said another.

Fans were overjoyed with the award. "High five! "Borat Subsequent Moviefilm" wins best motion picture, comedy/musical. Thrilled that a film that was able to make us laugh during the pandemic wins #Borat2," said a fan. Some carried on how Maria Baklova lost her Best Actress in a Comedy win to Rosamund Pike. "BORAT SUBSEQUENT MOVIEFILM won every award... except Maria Bakalova. Wow. #GoldenGlobes," said a fan.

'Happy 'Music' was shutout'

Many were happy that Sia's controversial 'Music' didn't make it. "I’m happy for Borat Subsequent moviefilm and I’m pleased Music was shutout. #GoldenGlobes," said a fan. "I can sleep easy tonight knowing that $!@'s Music film lost both of the Golden Globes it was somehow and unfortunately nominated for. I don't know much about I Care a Lot or Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, but I'm sure they're both infinitely superior films by comparison," said another.

The official 2021 Golden Globe Awards was telecast on February 28 at 8 pm ET and the pre-show was streamed live from the official @GoldenGlobes Twitter account and on the website goldenglobes.com at 6.30 pm ET.
