There are many valid reasons as to why there aren’t many older K-pop idols and groups. While there is no age limit in the rest of the world’s music industries, K-pop is very restrictive. Due to the exhaustive choreographies to physical requirements needed to promote on variety shows, a lot of idols fade away after the age of 30. Obsessive fans also do not allow idols to date which leads to them willingly stepping away from the limelight to start their own family. And it looks like BIGBANG’s T.O.P feels a similar way.

For the first time in six years, we are finally hearing from BIGBANG as they will be making a reunion comeback. They were known as the ‘Kings of K-pop’ as they were one of the biggest K-pop groups in the 2010s and responsible for the global Hallyu Wave. Their last comeback was in 2016 followed by a goodbye single in 2018 as they began their military enlistment era. Fans were elated with the reunion news but it does seem that it could be their last as hinted by T.O.P who thinks they are now too old to be an idol group.

Did T.O.P hint at departure from BIGBANG in the past? Idol to leave YG after reunion

T.O.P talks about BIGBANG's future

Right before BIGBANG announced their reunion, T.O.P posted a group photo on Instagram, probably to assure fans that no matter what he would always love the group and his fans. Because on the day the reunion was announced, T.O.P shared that he was leaving their label YG and going solo. While he has not mentioned if he will be leaving BIGBANG for good, he has alluded to it in his latest interview with Prestige Hong Kong. He explained that while he was proud to be T.O.P of BIGBANG, it would have to come to an end for a while.

T.O.P explained, “BIGBANG is an idol artist group. But I’m too old, and everyone’s old too!” He added that the upcoming reunion single would be emotional as he confessed it could be a long time before he came back to BIGBANG. T.O.P shared, “Over those five years ou music tastes and activities probably differed a lot, and now BIGBANG music and T.O.P’s music are quite different.” And while he did not confirm disbandment or him leaving the group forever, he shared that he would always be open to a reunion once more in the future.

Fans thank T.O.P for being honest with them

Fans think that they are about to get disbandment news soon as this is what had happened with BIGBANG’s labelmate, 2NE1 too. Their last reunion single had turned into a goodbye song as they disbanded after it. One VIP (BIGBANG’s fandom) tweeted, “As I've said last time if this is the last hurrah for BIGBANG im taking it with a grateful heart but still the pain lingers. BIGBANG GAVE ME THE HEARTACHES i never experienced in real life. Thank you Choi for keeping it real for us FANS.”

Another fan posted, “It's really like I expected, BIGBANG next song gonna be goodbye song.” One VIP shared, “As expected BIGBANG's new comeback song might be like 2NE1's Goodbye. I've accepted this already, BB really gave us so much than we deserved. Even it meant their mental health and chaotic life under the media. I would choose their happiness and freedom above all. They deserve it.” At the same time, fans are also excited for T.O.P’s solo career, “Go on KING! and eat the world.”
