The BET HipHop Awards 2021 are on after a prolonged wait and fans thronged the Cobb Energy Center in Atlanta to witness their favorite rappers perform in person. This year, several newbie rappers are aspiring to steal the show side by side with veteran artists. The rappers performing at the award stage include Baby Keem, BIA, Doechii, Gunna, Isaiah Rashad, Kal Banx, Latto, Lil Jon, Nelly, Paul Wall, Tobe & Fat Nwigwe, and Young Thug.

However, the audience seemed to be least impressed by this year's BET Cyphers at the award show. Showcasing the new generation rappers, cyphers happen to be one of the most anticipated segments of the BET HipHop Awards. But, this year, the upcoming hip-hop artists failed to make a mark with their freestyle jams and rapping style, even prompting fans to dub the Cypher 2021 as 'trash'.

Fans flooded Twitter with memes and jokes about the cyphers as they found them boring and uninteresting. Some even went to the extent of proposing that 2021 be the last year for cyphers at BET, given the degrading quality of the rap battles. Only a few artists like Erica Banks and Tierra Whack managed to garner some compliments, while the others were brutally trolled online.

"THIS MIGHT BE THE WORSE BET HIP HOP AWARDS CYPHER IN BET HISTORY… NOBODY GOT BARS AND NOBODY RUNNING THE BEAT… WE NEED @Therealkiss to save this sh*t… THESE NEW GENERATION RAPPERS SO TRASH!!! WHERE @WHOISCONWAY & @BennyBsf at??? WE NEED REAL RAPPERS @BET #BETHipHopAwards," an angry fan tweeted. Another agreed, saying, "Abolish the cypher! It was good while it lasted, started falling off two years ago- now it's horrendous #HipHopAwards"

A third fan said, "#BETHipHopAwards using the same lil baby beat for all the cyphers is kinda trash." "The cyphers sound like the artist couldn’t hear the dj. Everyone was off #HipHopAwards . The WORST CYPHER EVER," a fourth one tweeted, while one fan added, "The cyphers on the #BETHipHopAwards made me super uncomfortable." We also spotted a horde of hilarious memes trolling the Cyphers this year. Some of the stage performances, including that of celebrity rapper BIA, fell flat and earned quite some flak from the audience. At the same time, Tobe Nwigwe and his wife were showered with compliments for their stellar performance.

The BET HipHop Awards 2021 took place on October 5 at 9 pm ET/PT and is now streaming live on Hulu + Live TV.
