Coi Leray slammed for BET Best New Hip-Hop artist nod, fans say 'rioting’ if she wins
The nominations for the 16th edition of BET Hip-Hop awards are finally out. Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion lead the race with nine nods each whereas, Drake, who dropped his sixth album ‘Certified Lover Boy’ this year, scored eight nominations. While the fans were elated with the majority of the nominations, they particularly questioned why Coi Leray scored a nod in the Best New Hip-Hop Artist category.
The ‘Big Purr’ hitmaker was trending on Twitter as many slammed the award show for nominating the female emcee. The 24-year-old rapper will be competing against artists namely Blxst, Don Toliver, Morray, Pooh Shiesty, and Yung Bleu in the Best New Hip-Hop Artist category. Don Toliver and Pooh Shiesty too secured a spot on the trending list as many wanted them to take the trophy home.

Coi Leray faces heat for scoring BET new artist nomination
Coi Leray did not really have an eventful year as she was mostly in news only for the wrong reasons. First, the New Jersey native got slammed for PDA with her beau Pressa Armani at the red carpet of BET Awards. She later made news when she got heavily trolled for twerking at the end of her XXL Freshman Freestyle as social media users claimed she went out of rhymes.
Coi Leray also made news when she landed at the Rolling Loud Miami music festival and performed to an absolute dead crowd. Twitter users had then clowned her for making the audience do the mannequin challenge. However, she later claimed that everyone laughed at her performance just for her to have the best show of her life at the next one adding, “Never stop. Keep being fu**ing great.” Since Coi Leray rarely made news for her music, social media users were pissed as to why she got a nomination as the best new hip-hop artist. Speaking of the award show, the 16th edition of the hip-hop awards will be aired on October 5, 2021, at 9 pm on BET.
