We previously had K-pop singers branching out as artists wanted recognition from other industries and a chance to meet their international fans. And now, thanks to the Hallyu Wave, K-pop has become a sought after music industry. Artists and brands from all over the world are getting into K-pop and collaborating with talented idols and K-pop groups. We had the likes of DJ R3HAB collaborating with TWICE and Sam Kim, and now we have Thai idols like Mew Suppasit entering the K-pop market.

Thai rapper F.HERO dropped viral hits in collaboration with Stray Kids’ Changbin and GOT7’s Bambam who is from Thailand himself. We also had actors and singers Bright and Win of the BL ‘2gether’ fame participating in South Korea’s Asia Artist Awards, winning an award and interacting with Korean fans. Before them, we also had the Thai idol Mew Suppasit attending and performing at the Asia Song Festival 2021 organized by South Korea’s culture ministry. And now he has teamed up with K-R&B singer Sam Kim for the single ‘Before 4:30 (She Said…)’ that topped iTunes.

Mew Suppasit and Sam Kim’s single tops iTunes

Sam Kim and Mew Suppasit got together and collaborated on the R&B single ‘Before 4:30 (She Said…)’ that was released on December 20. Along with a fun music video, the single was made available on major music streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music. In turn, international fans helped the song top charts like iTunes. In less than 24 hours, the song is #1 on iTunes in 20 countries like Thailand, Argentina and Indonesia. Fans found it impressive that it was #3 on US iTunes which is extremely difficult to chart if it is not a song by a Western singer. ‘Before 4:30 (She Said…)’ is also #1 on the iTunes R&B/Soul genre chart in 37 countries including Canada and Spain.

Sam Kim is an R&B singer known for his soft pop ballads and R&B songs. He lately has been dubbed as ‘OST King’ by fans for his viral charting OST ‘Love Me Like That’ for the popular K-drama ‘Nevertheless’ which starred Netflix favorites Han So-hee and Song Kang. Sam Kim has been branching out as he has also dropped the collab ‘Someday’ with Indonesian pop star Raisa and is working on his first English-language dance music single with DJ R3HAB.

Mew Suppasit, on the other hand, is a popular Thai idol who started out as an actor and got international fame with the Thai BL (boy love) drama ‘Tharntype’ where he played the lead role. After establishing himself as an actor, he debuted as a singer in 2020 with the hit single ‘Season of You’. His songs have been charting on international charts like iTunes and Billboard and have also been noticed by Forbes who dubbed Mew as a ‘Thai superstar’. ‘Before 4:30 (She Said…)’ is part of Mew’s Global Collaboration Project 2021 as he has roped in several international artists like HONEE and Sam Kim.
