Kitty Green's 'The Spacesuit' lands Vanessa Kirby and Lewis Pullman in lead roles
Vanessa Kirby and Lewis Pullman will be seen together in Kitty Green's new feature film, 'The Spacesuit.' The sci-fi thriller follows an astronaut (Kirby), who is forced to make an impossible decision after an incident with her co-pilot (Pullman) leaves an indelible stain on a mission in the days leading up to lift-off, setting off a tense race against the clock. The film's international sales will be launched at Cannes by HanWay Films, while UTA Independent Film Group and CAA Media Finance will handle the North American market.
Australian film director, editor, producer, and screenwriter Kitty Green is primarily known for making documentaries. Even her two feature films, 'The Assistant' and 'The Royal Hotel,' dealt with heavy socio-political subjects. With 'The Spacesuit,' she will be stepping outside her expertise in creating small, impactful stories by taking the narrative into space. According to The Hollywood Reporter, HanWay Films’ CEO, Gabrielle Stewart, praised Green's vision and shared her excitement for this collaboration. This project also reunites producers James Schamus, Scott Macaulay, Joe Pirro, and Kath Shelper. They have several remarkable films in their portfolios, including 'Brokeback Mountain,' 'The Wolves Always Come at Night,' 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,' etc. Shelper has previously collaborated with Green on 'The Royal Hotel.' This will be Green's first feature film not to feature Julia Garner in the lead role. Kirby first gained prominence through her performance as Princess Margaret in Netflix's 'The Crown.' She was recently seen exploring space as Sue Storm in 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps.' Before that, she was part of 'Hobbs & Shaw,' 'Napoleon,' two 'Mission: Impossible' films alongside Tom Cruise, and 'Pieces of a Woman,' which earned her an Oscar nomination.
Lewis Pullman shares several career milestones with Kirby. He is also a part of the MCU, having played Robert Reynolds in 'Thunderbolts.' He has been part of 'Top Gun: Maverick,' another major Tom Cruise-led franchise. Like Kirby, he gained recognition after being part of the historical drama miniseries 'Lessons in Chemistry,' which earned him an Emmy nomination. The two actors coming together for a space film outside the MCU have begun to generate buzz among sci-fi enthusiasts.
