'American Song Contest': Jordan Smith moves to semifinals, fans slam 'out of touch' jury
The latest episode of the hit NBC show 'American Song Contest' saw a very important chance up for grabs. The states of Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Oklahoma were declared as the semifinalists, in the beginning, leaving just one spot open.
'American Song Contest' features many rising talented singers but also has some well-established talent like Michael Bolton in the house which many feel is an unfair advantage. This same goes for 'The Voice' winner Jordan Smith, who has also gone on to work with Celine Dion and fans were quick to point this out when he won and advanced to the semifinals. Here's more on his performance and what fans had to say about his win.

Kentucky's representative Smith started off by expressing his honor and gratitude for representing his state. Viewers who tuned in aren't unfamiliar with him as he was the winner of another singing competition. Smith already has a win on his plate as he was crowned the winner of 'The Voice' Season 9 and quipped that he aimed at getting another win with this show. He performed an original song called 'Sparrow' which drew inspiration from the importance of faith to the people of Kentucky.
While he gave a solid performance featuring high notes and meaningful lyrics fans weren't so happy when he was chosen to advance to the semifinals by the jury. The jury had the power to choose out of tonight's contestants and ended up sending him ahead. Fans, unfortunately, didn't support this decision ad called it rigged as they felt there were better performances that deserved the chance. Calling out the bias that comes with him already winning a NBC show, this is what they had to say
One fan said, "Did I foresee the jury moving KY on ? Yes. Do I think that the performance deserves it? God no. #AmericanSongContest", while another fan said, "Rigged. They just keep sending the "soulful" white men straight to the semi-finals. Not saying they aren't talented, but everyone else has to at least pretend to earn it. So disappointing. #AmericanSongContest". A tweet also read, "The winner of an NBC singing show automatically moves on to the semifinals on another NBC singing competition. #AmericanSongContest".
A viewer pointed commented, "Kentucky aka a former The Voice winner, winning the jury vote full of NBC and The Voice producers #AmericanSongContest", while another opined, "Lmao the jury’s vibes are SO out of touch. #AmericanSongContest". A fan tweeted, "OF FUCKING COURSE KENTUCKY WINS THE JURY VOTE. I can’t with this jury only picking incredibly boring ballads by by emotional singers… Pop bangers have just as much value!!!! #AmericanSongContest".
