BUELL, PENNSYLVANIA: The events of 'American Rust: Broken Justice', a crime drama series, transpire precisely four months after the conclusion of the first season.
The series, which premiered on Showtime on September 12, 2021, was canceled until it was reinstated by Amazon Freevee.
The first season of the show follows Del Harris (Jeff Daniels) as he attempts to cover up the murder committed by Billy Poe (Alex Neustaedter).
So, why is he trying to protect a murderer? The answer is simple: he is in love with Billy's mother, Grace Poe (Maura Tierney).
The first season's conclusion saw Billy viciously abused by his prison inmates, leaving him in a coma and his mother heartbroken.
District Attorney Sue Herlitz (Emily Davis) imprisoned Billy without adequate proof, which obviously irritated Grace. As such, in the most recent season, Grace is not sitting back to let Sue get re-elected for the job of District Attorney as she publicly exposes her incompetence.

Grace's hatred for Sue was clear from the first episode of the second season, when she threatened her re-election based on her son, Billy's condition.
Grace was indeed not kidding when she stated that Sue's re-election would be difficult, considering that she attended Sue's public debate.
Sue, on the other hand, is an ambitious lady who understands she has a lot to accomplish, and the District Attorney post is just the beginning; she is also interested in the position of Governor.
Grace Poe calls Sue Herlitz's promises a farce in 'American Rust: Broken Justice' Episode 3
As the debate begins, Sue's opponent simply promises to get rid of the drugs, but in response, Sue accuses him of being in bed with Landwill Energy.
Then she makes it clear that she will put law and order above all, and most importantly, she will stand with the citizens, which no doubt irritated Grace.
She publicly chastised Sue for her incompetence and revealed that she sent Billy to a chaotic, overcrowded prison for a crime for which she had insufficient evidence to prosecute him.
She claims Billy was simply waiting for his trial when he was savagely thrashed by the convicts, leaving him in a coma. She also called out the sham compensation, which only added to their misery.
Sue just grinned through Grace's charge and eventually stated that she is also with Landwill Energy and that it is all a ploy to bring her down.
Akin to how the public puts brains aside when supporting their favorites in real life, the audience applauded her speech and began screaming 'Stand with Sue', irritating Grace even more.
