LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Harper Triston, who had previously received praise for his singing on 'American Idol' Season 22, faced backlash on the internet after his performance in Hawaii. Fans of the show criticized him for consistently singing country songs and expressed their frustration with what they perceived as a lack of variety in his song choices.

Many fans slammed Harper for sticking to one genre of music, labeling his tendency to perform country songs as "cringey." They urged him to diversify his repertoire and explore different styles of music to showcase his versatility as a performer.

The backlash highlighted the fans' disappointment with Harper's perceived lack of innovation and growth as a contestant on American Idol. "Triston Harper was cringe. Singing a song about Christian nationalism," a user said. "That was just standard, sorry Triston," added another. "Triston should not be in top 24.. #americanidol just chessy," said one.

Others thought the young singer was simply overdoing the country genre. "Triston Harper over does being country. It's more of a stereotype trope at this point," said one. "here comes triston trying to be country," said another. "I might be the only one who’s not a fan of Triston," added one.

Luke bryan praises Triston Harper after his performance

Luke expressed his admiration for Tristan's performance, stating, “We love you, buddy. This is a big moment for a 15-year-old. Even when I go stand on the American Idol oval and stare back at Lionel and Katy and sing, we get nervous. You are going to do so well in this and in the rest of your career. Just keep getting out there and having fun and do that Alabama smile for everyone.”

Even the mentor Jelly coulnt hold back, as the singer chipped in,“I told you yesterday you were singing for Luke Bryan. He beat me out of my chair. You are the youngest man with the oldest soul I’ve ever met in my life. You have a swagger that at 15 years old, you don’t even know you have. You can win this competition.”

Triston Harper started singing at the age of 10

Growing up in McIntosh, Alabama, Harper was immersed in the rich sounds of country music that filled his home and community. However, it was a pivotal moment spent with his grandfather that sparked his passion for singing. When Harper was about 10 years old, his Alabama-born grandfather invited him into the living room for a special experience. With anticipation, Harper joined his grandfather, uncertain of what awaited him.

To Harper's delight, his grandfather played a Johnny Cash song called 'I Was There When It Happened,' explaining its significance as one of Cash's earliest recordings. As Harper listened to Cash's storytelling through song, he found himself utterly captivated. This moment left a profound impression on him, igniting a deep passion for country music and the art of storytelling.
