PASADENA, CALIFORNIA: The Ndlovu Youth Choir is a South African choir that has had a profound impact on the lives of its choristers. The group appeared on ‘America’s Got Talent’ in 2019 and finished in the Bottom 5 of the Top 10. What began as an after-school activity in 2009 has since evolved into a professional ensemble.

Their mission is to create a place of comfort and care, and strive to nurture values such as self-discipline and leadership in their choristers. The Ndlovu Youth Choir sings in 11 languages, including Zulu, Xhosa and English.

What happened to the Ndlovu Youth Choir in 'AGT Season 14'?

The Ndlovu Youth Choir performed 'My African Dream' during the audition for 'AGT Season 14'. In the Judge Cuts round, they performed a dynamic rendition of Shakira's 'Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)'. In the quarter-finals, they performed U2's 'Beautiful Day'. The judges, Howie Mandel, Gabrielle Union, Julianne Hough and Simon Cowell, were all in awe of their performance and gave them a standing ovation. In the semi-finals, the group performed a stunning rendition of Whitney Houston and Kygo's version of Steve Winwood's 'Higher Love', which earned them another standing ovation from the judges.

In the finals, they sang Toto's 'Africa', and for the finale, they performed 'Higher Love' with Kygo. They did not receive enough votes to advance to the Top 5 and got eliminated.



 

Where is Ndlovu Youth Choir now?

The fame that the group got via 'AGT' propelled them to new heights. After their appearance on the reality show, the Ndlovu Youth Choir was approached by Syco Entertainment, a joint venture with Sony, to sign a record deal. They accepted the offer and began recording their debut studio album, 'Africa', soon after the show.

'Africa' was released on November 29, 2019, and was met with great success. The album won the award for Best Adult Contemporary Album and debuted at number one in South Africa, showcasing their incredible talent and appeal to audiences.

The choir continued to release music, and on December 11, 2020, they released their second album, 'Rise'. The album was well-received and it continued to solidify their reputation as a talented group. Their third studio album, 'Grateful', was released on April 29, 2022. This album saw the choir collaborating with 25K, Sun-El Musician, Tyler ICU and the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain.

Over the past few months, the group has been performing regular shows in various cities and has been highly active on social media. They have recently been on tour in several South African cities, including Johannesburg and Cape Town.

'AGT: All-Stars' premiered on Monday, January 2, on NBC.
