NIGERIA, WEST AFRICA: When it comes to her marriage to '90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After?' star Usman "Sojaboy" Umar, actress Kim Menzies will tolerate nothing less than the first priority. TLC fans are now questioning why Kim is so hung up on the second wife situation.

Kim and Usman announced their intention to marry in last week's episode. The family questioned Usman's decision to bring two older, White American ladies home to marry while seeking his mother's permission. His family had approved of his prior relationship with Lisa Hamme, but not this time. Before meeting his family, Usman and Kim were aware that his mother's rejection may spell the end of their relationship. It remains to be seen if Usman and Kim will be able to continue together against his mother's desires.

In Sunday's episode, the Californian is taken aback when Usman's mother tells him he can't marry Kim until he takes a younger wife. Usman and Kim are unhappy and outraged after their tragic family encounter in Nigeria, but Kim is determined to prove her value. Kim is assertive in subsequent conversations with Usman about why she deserves to be his first wife and tells him that she will not take a second seat to anybody else—even a younger woman who can have children. Usman is the first to talk about the experience, after admitting to his family that Kim would enable him to have a second wife for the sake of producing children. "I was thinking that would touch them," Usman explained. "But they just turned it upside down."

He cites his Nigerian heritage and his family's expectations. "What I'm saying is that we have certain culture over here that you can never go against, too. But I hope you have seen how much I love you. And you know how my mom is to me. You know how I see my mom. I think after God, I see my mom second God to me." Usman admits he can't go against his mother's desires and tells Kim he'll marry someone else before Kim. "Then it's over," Kim concludes. "I'm not gonna be the second wife. I can't. I can't let myself be like that."

Kim explains why this is a dealbreaker later in an interview. "It's like his mom was giving me a compromise, but I can't make any more exceptions because I have exactly what I want now—his love. I feel like the love he has for me now will change with that." Kim compares it to previous relationships. "Getting the title of the first wife is so important to me because, in previous relationships, I always came second. Always. I was always pushed to the side, and I'm not gonna let that happen to me again."

Kim feels dissatisfied with the prospect of being his second rank. "I don't care if he came here and proposed to me right now with the biggest diamond in the world. I'm not his second. Sorry. I can't. I know my worth."

Addressing Kim, a fan wrote: "Kim, Usman’s family wasn’t hostile. They just said no and don’t try to bribe them." Another fan quipped: "Watch closely ladies. Kim Bah Lee is giving a Master Class on knowing your worth… on THIS episode." While others question Usman's worth as they write: "Kim been compromising too much to be with this man. Is he really worth all this?" Summarizing Kim and Usman's relationship, one viewer wrote: "Kimberly says she won’t put up with a lot of things that she ends up putting up with and Usman knows it."

One fan feeling sympathetic towards Kim wrote: "I actually feel bad for Kim,ahe really wants Usman's family to like her." Others are happy for Kim for standing up for herself: "After all this talk between Kim & Usman about who he’ll marry and choose to have children with, it’s nice to see Kim (as an American) draw the line at being the second woman that Usman marries. Yes, Kim. That totally screams self-respect." One viewer said no matter what Kim says she wouldn't be able to change one thing: "Kim made at least 2 full sentences to Usman's family & there was nothing she could have said because there are no words to change your age." Other suggested: "Kim needs to cut her losses and walk away. Usman is not worth this amount of heartbreak."
