'Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist' Season 2: Release date, plot, cast and all you need to know about NBC's show

NBC has renewed 'Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist' for a sophomore run after its critically acclaimed maiden season wrapped up last month. Last week, NBC canceled a couple of new series including 'Lincoln Rhyme' and 'Perfect Harmony', and 'ZEP' became the only show to receive a go-ahead from the network for a second season on June 11. Here's everything you need to know about Season 2 of the show.
Release date
As of now, there is no release date for the next season. Check this space in a few days for more updates.
Plot
The series follows computer programmer Zoey Clarke (Jane Levy) who has the power to hear other people's innermost feelings and desires but through pop songs that only she can hear. Zoey knew that her mission with these powers is to figure out why the person is singing a "heart song" and how she can help them with their issues. She was also romantically torn between her best friend Max (Skylar Austin) and her crush Simon (John Clarence Stewart) in Season 1. At the end of the last season, viewers saw the heartbreaking death of Zoey's dad, Mitch Clarke (Peter Gallagher). His death was a result of deterioration from his illness, PSP (progressive supranuclear palsy), and just moments before dying he spiritually had a conversation with Zoey. The next season might see the Clarke family deal with this loss and with her father not around anymore, Zoey might continue asking important questions while on her quest to find out the kind of person she wants to be. Her connections with her crush and best friend could also complicate her life further. The show's second run might or might not reveal as to how she got the superpowers in the first place.
Cast
The entire cast from Season 1 is expected to return. Jane Levy (Zoey Clarke), Mary Steenburgen (Maggie Clarke, Zoey's mother), Andrew Leeds (David Clarke, Zoey's elder brother), Alex Newell (Mo, Zoey's best friend), John Clarence Stewart (Simon, Zoey's crush) and Skylar Austin (Max, Zoey's colleague and friend) will all return and so will Lauren Graham (Joan, Zoey's boss).
It is yet to be seen if Peter Gallagher who played Zoey's now-dead father will return to the show in a cameo.
