The network is set to come out with Season 5 of the popular comedy show and there will be a huge surprise for the fans in the upcoming edition.

The show revolves around a nine-year-old boy Sheldon Cooper (Iain Armitage) attending high school and trying to adjust to a world full of people, including his own family and friends, who do not quite know how to deal with his unique intellectual capabilities and social ineptitude. The series is based on Sheldon Cooper, a character that featured on the highly popular show ‘The Big Bang Theory’ and was played by Emmy award winner Jim Parsons.

Release date and how to watch

The fifth season of ‘Young Sheldon’ will premiere exclusively on CBS on Thursday, October 7. The show will be taking its usual 8 pm EST slot on the network. Viewers can watch CBS without cable with one of these streaming services: fuboTV, Hulu with Live TV, Paramount Plus, YouTube TV, and AT&T TV.

If you are not based in the US, then you might need a VPN to watch the series.

CBS released the official logline for the premiere episode and it reads as, “Sheldon and Missy both run away from home, and Mary gets upsetting news about George Sr.” It seems a tragedy is going to hit Sheldon in the premiere episode of Season 5.

Co-creator Steve Molaro has made it clear that the fans will be seeing a time jump in the latest edition. Speaking in an interview with Digital Spy, the co-creator revealed that there will be a flash-forward in the new season that will force Sheldon to deal with challenging situations. However, the time jump won’t come during the initial episodes of the season.

According to Molaro, fans will see the time jump around episode 7 and will be introduced to new characters as well. He has also clarified that ‘Young Sheldon’ will indeed tie into the original show.

All the original cast members will be returning for Season 5. Iain Armitage will be reprising the role of young Sheldon Cooper while Lance Barber will be back as George Cooper.

Armitage has been a part of the entertainment industry since 2014 and made his debut with ‘Impractical Jokers’. He had a cameo role in ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’ where he portrayed the character of Theo Lachere. However, his first major acting role came in 2017 with ‘Big Little Lies’. He played the role of Ziggy Chapman in the series and starred alongside Shailene Woodley, Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, Reese Witherspoon and Alexander Skarsgard.

In 2017, he made his feature film debut as well with ‘The Glass Castle’ opposite Brie Larson and appeared in ‘Our Souls at Night’ alongside Jane Fonda and Robert Redford.

Apart from the aforementioned names, other actors to feature on the series include Zoe Perry (Mary Tucker Cooper), Montana Jordan (George Cooper Jr.), Raegan Revord (Melissa Cooper), and Annie Potts (Constance Tucker).

The show has been created by the dynamic duo of Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro. They previously worked together on ‘The Big Bang Theory’ as well. Meanwhile, Lorre, Molaro, Jim Parsons, Timothy Marx, Todd Spiewak, and Steve Holland serve as executive producers on the show.

The trailer of Season 5 teases George’s infidelity. The promo also reveals what really happens between George and Brenda. The clip doesn’t reveal much about their encounter, but we know that the duo was ready to go somewhere else from the bar to spend some quality time. However, the interaction is cut short by George's heart issues and he lands in the hospital once more.

Things will get interesting when George’s wife, Mary, and Brenda both arrive at the hospital to see him.
