'NCIS: Hawai'i' premiered on September 20 and while the hour-long episode was off to a breezy start, 'NCIS' ardents were disappointed with the pilot. There was also a section of fans who felt the series showed promise and was worth tuning in the following week. The pilot sees Special Agent Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey) and her team exploring the crash of an experimental naval aircraft on Oahu and attempt to catch the person behind it before classified state secrets are exposed.

With action, some cheesy and clunky humor, and typical NCIS elements on full display, the series reportedly had a 9.42/10 season one viewer vote according to TV Insider who asked for the viewers to come forward and vote for the pilot season. Created by 'NCIS: New Orleans' producers Christopher Silber and Jan Nash, along with Matt Bosack, the latest spin-off focuses on a female agent, breaking away from the men-centric approach in the previous series.

'NCIS: Hawaii'i' Episode 1: What do we know about Jane Tennant and her team so far?

Sharing their thoughts on the pilot, one of the fans wrote: "#NCISHawaii - ''Pilot'' - Quick Thoughts. It doesn't feel like an ''NCIS'' for me for a few reasons. 1. It tried, and for me, highly failed in making me believe that they're already an established team. 2. The humour just doesn't work for me." Another wrote: "Wanted to give #NCISHawaii a chance, but it seemed like a 3D printer, paint by numbers knockoff of #H50, banter, local color, a pork (instead of shrimp) truck, beach scenes, no character devo, cliche-ridden. Not hopeful. @Plenkov keep your blood pressure down and don’t watch :)" One fan minced no words: "Disappointed sorry #NCISHawaii."

One segment thoroughly loved the show: "Great show! I'm happy I tuned in! I love the characters, the plot and the setting! Hawaii is one of my favorite places to visit! Also, the group have terrific chemistry! @NCISHawaiiCBS is on my favorite list of shows to watch! #NCISHawaii." This was seconded by another who wrote: "Great series premiere! I enjoyed it! I can't wait to see what happens next week! #NCISHawaii." The positive response continued: "#NCISHawaii I’m hooked already! I’m adding this to my Monday line up."
