'You don't know anything': 'The Voice' Season 25 newbies Dan + Shay throw shade at John Legend's Country knowledge
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'The Voice' Season 25: Blind Auditions are nearly over, and coaches are scrambling to complete their rosters. Ducote Talmage, a country music artist, auditioned with Morgan Wallen's hit song "Sand in My Boots," earning him a two-chair stint.
Dan + Shay and John Legend put their hats in the ring, hoping to persuade Ducote to join their teams.
"I know I can be a great coach for you. Even if I didn't grow up listening to country music, I do know what a great song is and I do know how to help you plan a great performance," John told Ducote. "And I’ve taken a country artist all the way to the lives because she trusted me."
He continued, "Do you want to get lost in the sea of country artists on Dan + Shay's team, or do you want to do something renegade, revolutionary and join Team Legend?"
While Shay Mooney praised John for his "solid pitch" to Ducote, he also criticized John's lack of country credentials. "He mentioned a lot of things that I think he thought was helping his case, but I don’t know if it really did that," Shay said.
"I'm just telling the truth," John replied, to which Shay quipped, "You're telling the truth that you aren’t in country (and) you don’t know anything about country."
"It's not the traditional choice, it's not the obvious choice," John reasoned with Ducote as Shay Mooney interjected, "It's not the right choice."
Shay then informed John, "You don't know anything about Country." Ducote finally joined Dan + Shay's crew.
But John doesn't seem to be bothered by the duo's rookie streak. "Dan + Shay's team is looking formidable. I'm impressed," John said.
"But I would take advantage of their youth and inexperience, and I will beat them." As the last week of Blind Auditions approaches, the coaches become more selective.

John Legend claims 'The Voice' coach 'wasted' his block on Dan + Shay with four-chair singer
John, the self-proclaimed "four-chair king," should improve his blocking talents.
Serenity Arce, a teen vocalist who auditioned unsuccessfully for Season 21, astounded the judges with her soulful tone and breezy interpretation of Sam Fischer's "This City". The 16-year-old won her four-chair turn, but John blocked Dan + Shay.
"It's rude, and I think it's mean, but I take it as a compliment," Shay said.
"Your voice is so powerful and crisp and sounds like it can be on the radio immediately 'cause it has that ability to cut through the music," John said to Serenity. "I would love to be your coach."
But coach Chance the Rapper didn't let John off the hook that lightly, ridiculing his co-judge during his pitch to Serenity.
"John is covering up for the fact that he didn't turn around for you two years ago," he went on to say. "If I was there two years ago, I would've turned."
"The people that I work with on my team, I try and make it as much about what songs they want to perform, what they want to show to the world," Chance added. "Whoever you go with, I think you’re going to win. But if you get down with Team Chance, you’ll get to show who you are."
Fortunately for the rapper, Serenity is on Team Chance. Chance was chosen by the Florida vocalist to be her coach.
"I wasted my block," John said afterward. "I should've blocked Chance."
