LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘Yellowstone’ has been a force to be reckoned with since its inception and was destined to become one of the most-watched shows of this generation. The series primarily focuses on John Dutton (Kevin Costner) and other Dutton family members trying to save their ranch from the intruders who want to destroy the natural beauty of Montana. John Dutton has been one of the fiercest characters on television and doesn’t blink an eye before doing anything to protect his ranch and family. But things are looking bleak for him because it has been reported that the aforementioned character might be killed off when the show returns this fall.

The latest report just comes hours after it was indicated that the show might be ending with Season 5 because of the ongoing rift between Kevin Costner and the creator Taylor Sheridan. The report suggested that there’s clearly some “friction” between them and the end is near for the Paramount series. However, it seems Paramount is already discussing how to end the series and how to end John Dutton’s legacy.

John Dutton to have a Logan Roy-like exit?

According to the latest report by Showbiz 411, Costner’s character “will meet a similar fate” to that of Brian Cox’s Logan Roy on HBO’s blockbuster series ‘Succession’. If you have been following the HBO series, then you know how the show managed to take everyone by storm by killing off Logan in the middle of the fourth and final season. In the third episode of ‘Succession’ Season 4, the Roy siblings get a phone call from Tom and they receive the tragic news of their father’s death. Viewers never really thought that a character like Logan will die so early in the final season, but the makers decided to take the drastic step and it paid off handsomely.

Citing a source, Showbiz 411 claimed that the entire production team is currently meeting in Texas and deciding how to give a proper farewell to John Dutton. The source added, “The whole team is down in Texas now meeting, and trying to figure out how to do it. I’m sure Taylor Sheridan has it worked out more or less. We all knew Kevin would leave eventually.”

The source also noted that ‘Yellowstone’ might run for one more season after John Dutton’s death, but they would have to see if they are able to keep the show as engaging as it is now.

The death of John Dutton might benefit the show

The show went on a hiatus after airing the eighth episode of the fifth edition on January 1 and is scheduled to return. As of now, nothing has been confirmed and no one knows when the second part of Season 5 will premiere on Paramount. But killing off John Dutton might give them a chance to get a lot of eyeballs. ‘Succession’ did a wonderful job in creating a lot of suspense over Logan’s death and no one knew that a central character like him will die in the third episode of the final season. So, Paramount and Sheridan would have to think of giving Dutton a death that would look like a befitting end to his riveting story.
