Woman slammed for calling Jamie Lee Curtis a 'random, mundane, white woman' in Oscar rant
SANTA MONICA, CALFORNIA: Jamie Lee Curtis became the first member of her family to win an Oscar, surpassing the achievements of her famous parents, Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, who were also nominated in the past. Curtis won the Oscar for the Best Actress in a Supporting Role for 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' during the 95th Academy Awards held on Sunday, March 12. Her co-star, Stephanie Hsu, and Angela Bassett, who played Queen Ramonda in 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever', were the other nominees in the same category.
Netizens were quick to point out Bassett's expression once the awards were announced, while Hsu seemed thrilled for her 'EEAAO' co-star. Even though Curtis is a tremendously brilliant performer in her own right, Bassett not receiving the prize for her contribution to 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever' and her reputation as an actor sparked some controversy, per Yahoo!

People were quick to point out that Curtis beat her co-star, despite the fact that Hsu had a much more important role in the movie. A Twitter use called her win as, "Random mundane white woman in film, one of the antagonists even, winning in a film with a primarily asian cast is crazy." "They managed to find the one white member to win..." replied another user. Another user mentioned nepotism and wrote, "This is giving "the most established nepo baby deserves an Oscar" and I actually love Jamie Lee. However, Stephanie & Angela were better and my default setting is Black, so..."

However, an army of internet users, who supported Curtis' win, slammed the user for calling her a "random mundane white woman." A user wrote, "Random? Lol it’s Jamie lee Curtis. One of the greatest female actresses of all time," while another wrote, "Mind you she won over the main antagonist and the queen of wakanda." "Your default setting is black? That's a weird thing to say," another user chipped in.
Another user commented, "You need to remember who it is you speak of. The woman who literally defined an entire sub-genre of horror and had Hollywood SCRAMBLING to recreate her magic for decades?" Another user wrote, "I personally feel and would’ve voted for #angelabasset winning over the others. However, this was a tough decision, multiple worthy actresses who could’ve won, hell some weren’t nominated! Despite your opposition, it’s a vote. The best doesn’t always win every year."

Jamie Lee Curtis wins her first Academy Award
Curtis won her first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in 'Everything Everywhere All at Once.' In her moving acceptance speech, the 64-year-old made sure to emphasize her Hollywood origins and the fact that her late parents were unable to take the stage. She said, "I know it looks like I’m standing up here by myself, but I am not." Before speaking about her co-stars on 'Everything Everywhere All at Once', Curtis added, "I am hundreds of people. We just won an Oscar." She continued by thanking her family and admirers of her "genre movies," as per CNN.
"The assumptions and snide remarks that someone related to someone else who is famous in their field for their art, would somehow have no talent whatsoever," Curtis said, adding that she had navigated her decades-long acting career "with the advantages my associated and reflected fame brought me." While accepting the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in February, she also spoke about her "Nepo Baby" status.
