'Sugar' Season 2 Update: Here's the renewal status of Apple TV+'s thriller series
Contains spoilers for Apple TV+'s 'Sugar'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Sugar' premiered its final episode on May 17, 2024, and fans who have completed the series cannot wait to see what happens next in Apple TV+'s mind-bending tale.
Created by Mark Protosevich, 'Sugar' follows the journey of a private investigator, John Sugar (Colin Farrell), who is later revealed to be an alien who has come on a mission to observe humans and uses his job as a private investigator as a cover-up for his real mission.
The series sees Sugar investigate the disappearance of Olivia Siegel (Sydney Chandler) and at the end of the series, he discovers the truth about Olivia being kidnapped by Ryan Pavich (Cameron Cowperthwaite).
John Sugar further learns that Pavich had an accomplice in John's friend Henry (Jason Butler Harner) who also took away John's sister Djen (Maeve Whalen). So is there a second season happening for 'Sugar'? Here is all we know.
'Sugar' Season 2 update
Unfortunately for the fans, there is no official announcement regarding the renewal of 'Sugar' for a second season from Apple TV+ or from the producers of the show.
However, the show ends with John Sugar staying on Earth and his story with Henry is also unfinished. And, with suspense lingering about Djen's whereabouts, there is a lot that Season 1 leaves ambiguous.
So, if the reception to 'Sugar' continues to be good and the streaming numbers are up to Apple TV+'s expectations, it is likely that the series will be renewed for a second season sometime in the future.
What could be the plot of 'Sugar' Season 2?
Now that John Sugar is staying on Earth, he would still need to continue his day job as a private investigator which would mean another case similar to that of Olivia's disappearance.
On a personal level, John has a bone to pick with Henry and needs to find out about his sister Djen. Also, with Ruby (Kirby) now back on her planet and Miller (Paul Schulze) dead, Sugar will have a bit of a free hand and can do things his way.
In the final episode, John Sugar possibly told the secret about his identity to Melanie (Amy Ryan). The first season has teased a romance between both characters and the second season could explore it in detail.
Finally, the first season ends with John Sugar feeling more connected to human beings and human emotions. The second season could explore his character learning more about humans and Earth.
