Will there be ‘Memory of a Killer’ Season 2? Fox drops major renewal update on Patrick Dempsey thriller
Patrick Dempsey's Angelo Doyle will return. Fox has officially renewed 'Memory of a Killer' for Season 2, making the timely announcement just after the finale of the debut season. Inspired by the book and the 2003 Belgian film 'De Zaak Alzheimer', the new season will see Aaron Zelman and Glenn Kessler continue as showrunners. The duo joined the show halfway into Season 1's production, replacing the original co-showrunners — Ed Whitmore, Tracey Malone, and David Schulner.
‘Memory of a Killer' stars Dempsey as Angelo Flannery/Doyle, leading a dangerous double life while grappling with the fact that he is slowly losing his memory. Complicating things is that he discovers that his wife's recent death may not be an accident. When his pregnant daughter Maria (Odeya Rush) becomes a target, Angelo must revert to his old life to find the ones coming after his family. Starring alongside Dempsey are Michael Imperioli, Richard Harmon, Peter Gadiot, and Daniel David Stewart in key roles. The list of EPs includes Dempsey, Zelman, and Kessler, joined by Arthur Sarkissian, Martin Campbell, and Peter Bouckaert.
Per Deadline, the statement saw Channing Dungey, Chairman and CEO, Warner Bros. Television Group, and WBD US Networks express his excitement about the renewal. "We’re thrilled Fox has renewed Memory of a Killer for a second season, a richly deserved renewal given the show’s great critical, creative, and commercial success. The performances of Patrick Dempsey and Michael Imperioli have been compelling, and we can’t wait to see what the show’s brilliant creative team has in store for Angelo’s next chapter." Added Michael Thorn, President of Fox Television Network: "Memory of a Killer has become a true standout with visceral performances from Patrick Dempsey and Michael Imperioli. Aaron Zelman, Glenn Kessler, and our partners at Warner Bros Television have delivered a sharp, emotional character-driven thriller that’s clearly landed with viewers, and we’re excited to continue that success together in Season 2."
The series opened to positive reviews from fans, but garnered mixed ratings from critics. That said, it has been a streaming staple on Hulu, making it a no-brainer for Fox to greenlight another season. The outlet added that 'Memory of a Killer' is one of the network's hit shows on its streaming, generating 1.4M P2+ over a seven-day viewing. At the time, there is no word on when Season 2 will premiere, and how many episodes will be in the upcoming run. The series' Season 1 is currently available for streaming on Hulu.
