Will 'The Night Manager' return for Season 3? Tom Hiddleston's update brings huge relief after that brutal finale
The final minutes of 'The Night Manager' Season 2 stacked up consequences, betrayals, and bodies until it felt almost rude to end the episode when it did. For Jonathan Pine, Angela Burr, and just about everyone unlucky enough to stand near them, the ending was brutal. It was the kind of finale that doesn't gently let you go to sleep. It keeps replaying in your head. Naturally, attention has now focused on the future, and more specifically, on whether 'The Night Manager' Season 3 is actually happening or if viewers are being abandoned all over again. This time, though, there's relief in the air.
The long gap between the first and second seasons still haunts fans. Season 1 returned in April 2016 and wrapped up so perfectly that many assumed it was done for good. Then came the surprise return almost ten years later, when Season 2 finally landed in January 2026. Waiting that long again would feel cruel. Thankfully, that nightmare scenario is off the table. When Season 2 was officially announced, both the BBC and Prime Video also confirmed something even better: a third season was already part of the plan. No cliffhanger renewal anxiety this time. No waiting for executives to make up their minds. Season 3 was always coming.
Tom Hiddleston himself recently backed that up in an interview with TV Insider. He confirmed that work on the next chapter is already underway, even if cameras aren't rolling just yet. "We're working on it. Yeah, we're working on it now," Hiddleston said. "It's not in official pre-production, but it's in official development… We're working on it, we're refining the story and the architecture of what we really like." That word choice matters. Development means conversations are happening, ideas are being shaped, and the larger picture is being locked in before anyone commits to a shooting schedule.
Hiddleston also offered a tease about how Season 3 fits into the bigger plan, and it sounds like this has been mapped out for a while. "It's very exciting because we've always been able to plan Season 2 and Season 3 as a two-volume story—12 hours and 12 episodes are very different from six episodes, so we know where the story ends," he shared. Moreover, Director Georgi Banks-Davies shared that sense of structure in a separate interview with Variety. She confirmed that writer David Farr is already deep into the process of building Season 3.
In her words, "There was a third season that was always in the offing. David is writing it now—he's at the coalface and in the early stage. But yeah, when the second season came the plan was to go to three. So when you see our whole series, you'll see it can sit entirely alone but can also sit very much as the second book in the trilogy." So yes, the good news is very good. 'The Night Manager' Season 3 is renewed, planned, and actively being written. Now for the not-so-great part. Even with scripts in progress, it's still likely going to be a while before Season 3 actually arrives on BBC and Prime Video.
The reasons are practical. First, look at the cast. Hiddleston, Olivia Colman, and their co-stars are not exactly sitting around waiting for a phone call. They're booked, busy, and in demand across film and television. Coordinating schedules at this level is not an easy task. Then there's the scale of the show itself. 'The Night Manager' hops across countries, uses real-world settings, and stages action sequences that need time and planning. All of this means patience is required. Again.
