LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'American Idol' Season 22 moved to Hollywood Week after the judges, Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie wrapped up the five rounds of auditions.
However, Platinum ticket winner Julia Gagnon kicked off the Hollywood Week with a powerhouse performance. She was joined by fellow Platinum ticket winners, Abi Carter and Odell Bunton Jr.
Additionally, Julia's stellar vocals sparked speculations that she could end up reaching the Top 3 contestants of the ABC show. In the early released performance clip of the Platinum ticket winners, Abi, Odell, and Julia took center stage and performed, 'California Dreamin' by The Mamas & the Papas.
In the video, Abi started the performance, followed by Odell, who entered the stage and elevated the performance with his soulful voice. Julia was last to appear on the stage but stunned the judges after she belted out the lyrics.
The judges were left speechless, expressing their awe with a simple "wow." Additionally, the Platinum ticket winners received a standing ovation from all three judges.
However, fans of the ABC show were equally impressed with the trio of contestants, particularly Julia. A social media user said, "They killed it! But Julia... She's got the it factor!" Another person added, "Julia will definitely reach the Top 3."
Another fan said, "It really sounds like the judges were super spot on this season in regards to the Platinum Ticket. Wouldn't be surprised if they got to be the very Top 3." 'American Idol' Season 22 contestant Julia Gagnon was adopted at age 2 from an orphanage in Guatemala and raised in Cumberland, Maine. Julia performed 'Ain't No Way' by Aretha Franklin during her auditions, earning her a standing ovation from the judges and ultimately securing the final platinum ticket. The aspiring singer dedicated her soulful audition to her birth mom.
Julia shared in her introduction video, "My birth mom, she knows I can sing. She said that she would love to live to see me do something big." The ABC show contestant added, "That's why I'm here. To do something for her." She also revealed that she reconnected with her birth mom in 2020 after her adoptive father hired a private investigator to find her.
Julia further noted, "I felt really helpless because I can't go to her. Guatemala's really far. But she's really proud of my voice and she wanted to see me do something big.
'American Idol' Season 22 introduces a new twist in Hollywood Week
'American Idol' Season 22 has introduced an exciting change to its format, adding a new twist to the 'Hollywood Week: Idol Arena' 2024. In the upcoming episode, the aspiring singers who received a Golden Ticket will sit in the same arena facing each other. They will be called to the stage at random to perform.
The latest format of the ABC show is expected to test the nerves of the 143 contestants with the new element of surprise. The contestants would get only one chance to make it through the cut to reach the Showstopper round.
The judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie would cut short the contestants to the Top 55 as they search for the next singing sensation.
