'Dexter: Resurrection' Season 2 casts Brian Cox in recurring role tied to his dark past
Season 2 of 'Dexter: Resurrection' is shaping up to be quite intriguing as Paramount+ recently confirmed that a veteran actor will play a prominent recurring role. According to a report by Variety magazine, the sophomore season of the 'Dexter' reboot show has cast Golden Globe winner Brian Cox as Dom Framt, also known as 'The New York Ripper.' Originally introduced in the show's debut season, Framt didn't appear in person in the first batch of episodes and was referred to by the lead character, played by Michael C. Hall.
The official description of The New York Ripper describes him as "a serial killer who terrorized the City years ago. Though no longer active as a killer, he’s found a new way to live into his infamy by continuing to taunt the survivors of his long-ago murder spree.” The unraveling of the serial killer's real identity occurred after Dexter and, later, Detective Claudette Wallace (Kadia Saraf) found a file on Framt in the vault of Peter Dinklage's Leon Prater. It can be speculated that Framt will come to play a determining role in the upcoming second installment of the show, perhaps even appearing as the chief antagonist.
The debut season of 'Dexter: Resurrection' saw the titular character coming to himself after being in a comatose condition. Determined to reunite with his son, Harrison, portrayed by Jack Alcott, Dexter found himself surrounded by a posse of serial killers. The cast of the debut season also included Uma Thurman, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, David Zayas, James Remar, Dominic Fumusa, Emilia Suárez, and Neil Patrick Harris. Season 2 is slated to premiere with 10 episodes sometime in October 2026 and will pick up immediately in the aftermath of the debut season's events.
'Succession' star Cox, who rose to great heights of fame with his depiction of the billionaire business tycoon Logan Roy on the HBO Max show, is no stranger to playing serial killers. He is still remembered for his chilling portrayal of Dr. Hannibal Lecter in the 1986 film 'Manhunter.' His contribution to 'Succession' earned him three Emmy nominations for outstanding lead actor in a drama series. His other notable works include the television miniseries 'Nuremberg,' in which he played Hermann Göring, and the comedy 'Frasier.' Cox has also made a name for himself on the big screen, and his work on films such as 'Troy' and the Jason Bourne franchise starring Matt Damon are particularly worth mentioning. On the other hand, the 'Dexter' reboot was conceived and developed by Clyde Phillips, who was the creator of the original series. Phillips executive produces 'Dexter: Resurrection' and is also the showrunner.
