LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: We have seen a lot of franchises get abandoned and only to restart later, much like Pixar's ongoing 'Toy Story'. Fans have frequently believed the award-winning cartoon series was over due to the ten-year gap between the second and third films and the subsequent nine-year wait till 'Toy Story 4' came out.

Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed the news that the anticipated fifth installment of the popular Pixar series is in the works during the company's Q1 earnings call. A new 'Zootopia' movie and a third Frozen installment would also be released, it was revealed on the call, along with the news of a new 'Toy Story'. “Today I’m so pleased to announce that we have sequels in the works from our animation studios to some of our most popular franchises, 'Toy Story', 'Frozen', and 'Zootopia'," said Iger during the earnings call as per Collider. He added, "We’ll have more to share about these productions soon, but this is a great example of how we’re leaning into our unrivaled brands and franchises.”

'Toy Story' is one of Disney's most prominent franchises

One of the most adored animation series ever produced, the original 'Toy Story' movie was the first fully computer-animated feature movie to be released in 1995. The success of the first movie led to the production of three sequels: 'Toy Story 2' in 1999, 'Toy Story 3' in 2010, and 'Toy Story 4' in 2019. The series also produced a spin-off movie, 'Lightyear', in 2022, starring the renowned Space Ranger Buzz Lightyear. 'Toy Story' is one of Disney's most popular animation series and one of Pixar's pillar brands according to its four mainline features' combined global box office earnings of $3.03 billion.

'We didn’t even need a 4th movie'

After Disney's announcement, 'Toy Story' fans took to Twitter and according to their tweets, they seem confused. One fan went on to tweet, "But the ending of Toy Story 4 was so beautiful. Why risk ruining it?" Another fan continued the discussion by saying, "We didn’t even need a 4th movie to be honest. At this point Pixar is milking this franchise to death." A third fan said, "That's true. I was unsure of the 4th movie but it ended up working. But 5 movies is pushing it too far." A fourth user said, "But why? What more is there to tell after what happened last time? I mean we all love toy story but, I think it ended wonderfully last time. Where Woody now is on his own and gave up that life of being with a kid. What is he gonna reunite with Andy and we all cry or something?" Fans believe that the story has reached its saturation point, as one fan said, "I really don’t know what else there is to do with these characters. We’re in the age of not knowing when to stop."
