Why isn't 'Chicago Fire' airing a new episode tonight? NBC's new plans postpone the famous Windy City show
Ever since 'Chicago Fire' returned from its winter break in early January 2026, it has given fans plenty to unpack. This is also true of the other two shows in the 'One Chicago' trifecta, i.e., 'Chicago P.D.' and 'Chicago Med'. As the finale episodes of all three shows set against the backdrop of the Windy City are over the horizon in March this year, showrunners are busy culminating the existing narrative threads so they can seamlessly up the ante by the time the respective season finales roll in. It is for this reason that the ongoing episodes of 'Chicago Fire' can't be missed.
Nevertheless, fans should note that NBC won't air any new 'Chicago Fire' episode on Tuesday, February 11, at the usual hour. The reason for this break from the schedule is that NBC has other plans for its hit Wednesday night slate. As is widely known, NBC has secured the broadcast rights to the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan. Thereafter, the network will roll out its Winter Olympic-themed programming under 'Primetime in Milan: The Olympics' throughout the entire three-hour slot between 8 p.m. ET. and 11 p.m. ET, which is usually reserved for the 'One Chicago' franchise.

Season 13, and 'Chicago Med' Season 11 would take a break for the entirety of February. New episodes from all three shows will hit the waves once again on March 4. It goes without saying that the said break wouldn't last as long as the show's winter holiday hiatus or summer downtime. Moreover, fans of the show have no cause to be disheartened, since NBC is planning to ensure that all three shows in the trifecta return to their regular programming schedules with a bang.
In keeping with the tradition established by NBC in the post-pandemic era, the network will once again release a much-anticipated 'One Chicago' crossover episode lasting three full hours. Unlike last year, 'Chicago Fire' featuring valiant firefighters from Firehouse 51 will kickstart the crossover episode, followed by the Gaffney clinic springing to action in 'Chicago Med', with the Intelligence officers from 'Chicago P.D.' finally rounding up the grand event.
The official plot synopsis for the upcoming crossover reads, "Firehouse 51 is called to an airfield when a passenger jet suddenly goes silent mid-air, triggering a high-stakes emergency. Their discovery cracks open a bigger and deadlier mystery — one with consequences that could ripple far beyond the runway and put countless lives in jeopardy." 'Chicago Fire' is exclusively available on NBC and Peacock.
