Why do fans want ISAC canceled? K-pop sports day reportedly violates human rights

Several K-pop idols have been severely injured at ISAC which affected their comebacks and award show stages like EXO, VIXX, AOA, Infinite and more

With MBC, the organizer of ISAC, being a leading broadcasting station that manages major TV programs and music shows important for promotions, agencies send their artists to participate in the K-pop sports day. There are rumors that agencies are blacklisted if they don’t send their artists and these artists break ISAC filming rules on purpose to get kicked out for good as seen with the absence of BTS, GOT7, EXO and several other third-gen groups. And so fans are hoping that ISAC now gets canceled as it is being called out for allegedly violating human rights.

‘Idol Star Athletic Championship’ aka ISAC started out as a fun sports day event where major K-pop artists would get together and bond while participating in matches and games. But soon, several serious injuries started cropping up which fans felt could risk an idol’s main career. There are several severe cases as Seventeen’s Jeonghan injured his wrist during a relay match, Infinite’s Woohyun’s shoulder injury hampered their comeback, BTS' Jin hurt his face, AOA’s Seolhyun missed ‘Miniskirt’ comeback because of a knee injury, EXO’s Xiumin sported a knee cast at the Golden Disc Awards, and Sistar’s Bora fell and could not get up during a race.

ISAC audience not allowed to leave

VIXX’s Leo had to leave in a cast and crutch after futsal while GOT7’s Jinyoung and Jackson wore casts even for their overseas activities. EXO’s Tao hurt his back after falling on a bar and TWICE’s Sana was diagnosed with enteritis after she was holding her stomach in pain during filming. But despite these injuries affecting comebacks, ISAC has continued. However, the K-pop sports day has now come under fire for allegedly violating basic human rights needs which fans hope is enough to cancel the show. An announcement for ISAC 2022 revealed that no one can eat at the stadium and no one can leave during the 15-hour schedule.

Filming begins at 5:30 am and the fans in the audience, as well as the idols participating, cannot leave till filming ends at 9 pm. ISAC has now changed their announcement sharing that fans can leave for a short break to eat outside the stadium and return. They have also shared that the agencies recruiting the fans are responsible for their meals. While idols are allowed to eat, their having to make time in between busy schedules to participate in risky activities has fans unhappy.

'The negative just outweighs the positive'

Well, fans are shocked as they made tweets like, “What the actual fxk.” Another fan said, “Get all groups out of this shit*.” Another fan shared, “Been in this kpop shit long enough to know already.. just cancel the damn ISAC. useless event without much positive benefits. the possibility of an idol getting injured and starving for a whole day.. and for what? some video views? the negative just outweighs the positive.” One fan added, “And we cheered cancel this program and let my skz rest.”

Another commented, “The audacity to do that after getting all those artists to attend their show... at least treat both artists and fans who'll attend properly.” One fan added, “Well not the 1st time..they have been doing this shit for years.. Senior idols stop attending this cause of all the exhaustion,strict filming schedule and injuries but now junior idols have to go through this🧍‍♀Cancel this isac for forever for everyone's safety !!”
