Why did Chance the Rapper steal Kyle Schuesler from Dan + Shay? ‘The Voice’ judge had eyes on singer since 'day one’
UNIVERSAL CITY, CALIFORNIA: In 'The Voice' Season 25 Episode 12, Team Dan + Shay's Anya Joy and Kyle Schuelser battled it out for a spot in the Playoffs.
Anya took a bold step by performing 'Runway' without her trusty guitar for the first time ever, at the urging of Shay who emphasized the importance of storytelling in her performance. Keith Urban noted a moment when Anya closed her eyes, showing a deep connection to the song.
On the other hand, Kyle chose 'Say You Won’t Let Go' by James Arthur as it held a special significance for him, reminding him of his beloved grandma. Keith praised Kyle's unique and raspy voice, while Dan encouraged him to embrace the intimate moments in the song.
Both Anya and Kyle were pushed out of their comfort zones as the coaches urged them to perform without their guitars for a change.
After their performance, Dan + Shay ended up picking Anya as the winner. Shay said, “We chose Anya because she sings straight from her heart and pulls you in and makes you believe what she’s saying. She has a lot of potential to do really well in this competition.”
Soon after, Chance the Rapper hit the steal button for Kyle and said, “I was playing the long game, baby. I was just like a leopard waiting to pounce. I knew I was going to get you on my team at some point. I just had to play my cards right."
"I’ve had my eye on Kyle since day one. My team was full so I couldn’t grab him up. He can do pop, he can do folk, he can do country, he can do anything. I think he can do anything with his voice," Chance added.
