Did Medusa win 'The Masked Singer' Season 9? FOX show slammed as being 'staged' after Macaw loses

Many fans felt that Macaw was the more deserving candidate for the winner's trophy than Medusa as they called FOX's singing show 'rigged'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'The Masked Singer' Season 9 declared Medusa as the winner of the season. And with the final announcement came the final unmasking. Medusa was unmasked as multi-platinum singer-songwriter Bishop Briggs. With Medusa being declared the winner, Macaw became the runner-up of Season 9.

It seems that fans were not happy with the result. Many felt that Macaw was the more deserving candidate for the winner's trophy than Medusa. And, it took no time for the fans to call out FOX's singing show "rigged" for not making the deserving one winner of the season. Indeed, disappointed fans slammed the reality show and its makers for having a favorite pick.

Clues for Medusa

Medusa donned a green colored bodysuit with fish scales all over it. Wearing the snakes on her waist and head, the masked singer took everyone by surprise with her soulful voice. She sang 'Elastic Heart' by Sia and 'Welcome to the Black Parade' by My Chemical Romance in the finale episode. The clue package for this masked singer started with her explaining her decision to choose Medusa as her costume. She said, "I think people who know me wouldn’t be the least bit surprised I’m wearing a costume with a bunch of snakes all over it and looking creepy. Being a cheeky, reptilian enchantress is basically my aesthetic. The truth is, I feel really grateful I have such a powerful costume to embody. Medusa has become my second skin."

Medusa claimed to feel "powerful" in her costume. She then gave a clue about her tour in the package and said, "I’m actually afraid I’ll get too used to it and won’t take it off when I go on tour. I fought hard to get here, and it would mean so much to me to join the ranks of past winners like the amazing Queen of Hearts (Jewel)."

She then explained why it is most important for her to win. "I had to fight the hardest to earn my place here tonight. I was almost sent home, but all of those obstacles prepared me for this moment right now. Because no matter the circumstances, my priority is the connection with the people in front of me," stated Medusa.

She then hinted about having a son and said, "I hope when my son watches this, he’ll hear Medusa’s message that we are capable of being so many different things at once." 

Other clues for this masked singer from the previous episode are "she never fitted in the environment she grew up in," she is a "dancer in the dark," and "$340 M sold" clue.

Medusa is Bishop Briggs

Medusa won the title of FOX's 'The Masked Singer Season 9. The singer was revealed to be Bishop Briggs, while Macaw was unmasked as David Archuleta. Briggs revealed, "When I was on the show, I was six months postpartum. My most recent memory was performing at Coachella while pregnant."

Famously known for hits like 'Wild Horses' and 'River', Briggs was almost eliminated earlier in the season but thankfully was saved by Ding Dong Keep It On Bell. The British-American singer-songwriter was born in London to a Scottish family. At the age of 4, she moved to Tokyo with her family. And, her singing career started ever since her early childhood days. She used to perform in karaoke bars and on small stages. Briggs sang 'Never Tear Us Apart' in 'Fifty Shades Freed' which grossed a total of $340 million.

'The show is so rigged'

After Medusa won instead of Macaw, who fans believed sang much better than Briggs, a fan tweeted, "Rigged! Never watching show again. No way on earth she beat out Macaw or California Roll. She did nothing but scream the last 2 episodes!! Terrible ending."

Another angry fan wrote, "I’m so disappointed that Medusa won…Macaw deserved to win he was way better." "Absolutely awful that Macaw didn’t win. Based on singing, he was the best. The show is so rigged. I’ve been a fan since the beginning, but I’m over it," tweeted another. 

Furthermore, a few fans slammed the makers as one wrote, "Producers definitely had their favorite." "I watched religiously and yall blew it. She was horrible. It's like it was rigged for her. He performed great all the way through," tweeted another disappointed fan.

A fan slammed Medusa, "Great screamer definitely not a singer." Another wrote, "So staged. Medusa should have never made it this far in the show ever."
