'Yellowstone' star set to reunite with Zahn McClarnon and Kiowa Gordon in 'Dark Winds' Season 5
While 'Dark Winds' Season 4 continues to thrill the audience with its gripping and bone-chilling storyline, the fifth installment is already putting in the work behind the scenes. 'Yellowstone' star Martin Sensmeier has been tapped for a regular role and will share the screen with Kiowa Gordon and Zahn McClarnon in 'Dark Winds' Season 5. He shared the news on social media, as he wrote, "Excited to join a great show with a great cast and wonderful team." The actor plays Terry Bai, a former Vietnam veteran turned racetrack worker with a connection to Chee (Gordon) dating back to their middle school days. The series sees Sensmeier reunite with Gordon, with whom he worked on Netflix's 'The Liberator.' He also previously starred alongside McClarnon in 'The Last Manhunt'.
The recent update comes after Season 5 added Paola Núñez as a series regular earlier this week. According to Deadline, Núñez will serve as a lead investigator for the US Attorney's office, with a connection to Leaphorn’s (McClarnon) past. 'Dark Winds' is based on the Leaphorn & Chee book series by Tony Hillerman. The drama is set in 1971 on a remote Navajo Nation outpost near Monument Valley. The series follows Lt. Joe Leaphorn (McClarnon) of the Tribal Police as he investigates a series of gory crimes, all of which have deep connections to his past. He has a formidable and hard-nosed deputy in Jim Chee (Gordon) as they battle the evil, outside and within. The fourth season of the series is currently at its halfway mark.
Season 4 focuses on the trio of Leaphorn, Chee, and Manuelito (Jessica Matten), who investigate the case of a missing Navajo girl, Billie Tsosie, as they look to rescue her from a killer with ties to organized crime. The renewal news does not come as a surprise, considering the thriller's popularity. "Over four seasons, Dark Winds has masterfully blended compelling character-driven stories, Navajo culture, spirituality, and breathtaking cinematography. We are elated to continue the journey alongside showrunner John Wirth and the incomparable Zahn McClarnon," Dan McDermott, chief content officer of AMC Networks and president of AMC Studios, said while speaking with THR. "
'Dark Winds' is created by Graham Roland with John Wirth as the showrunner. Additional EPs include late Hollywood legend, Robert Redford, George R.R. Martin, Anne Hillerman, Vince Gerardis, Thomas Brady, Max Hurwitz, Chris Eyre, Tina Elmo, and Jim Chory. At the time of this writing, there is no official announcement about the Season 5 release date. However, it could possibly be released in 2027.
