Singer-songwriter Christina Perri announced on Saturday, July 11, that she and husband Paul Costabile are expecting their second child. The ‘Jar of Hearts’ singer took to Twitter to make the happy announcement.

Sharing photos of her two-year-old daughter Carmella Stanley, who was proudly wearing a shirt with a rainbow on it along with the words, “big sister to be,” Perri wrote, “Carmella is gonna be a big sister !!! Our rainbow baby is coming in January.”

You can see the photos here.

This news is especially joyous considering earlier this year, in January, Perri had revealed that she had suffered a miscarriage at 11 weeks. “Today I had a miscarriage,” she wrote in a message on her social media. “Baby was 11 weeks old at the time. We are shocked & completely heartbroken.”

“We were only 1 week away from sharing the news so I feel like it’s also important to share this news too. I want to continue to help change the story & stigma around miscarriage, secrecy, and shame,” she explained, adding, “I am so sad but not ashamed. I am ever reminded how amazing and powerful women are at making life and at healing. To all the mothers who have been here and who will be here, I see you and I love you.” She concluded the message with, “I am so sad but not discouraged. When the time feels right we will try again, but today, we mourn our little life lost.”

Perri has always been candid about her motherhood. Speaking to People magazine in 2019, Perri revealed that she had struggled with postpartum depression following the birth of Carmella. Perri and Costabile welcomed their daughter Carmella Stanley in January 2018. “That got me the hardest when I stopped breastfeeding around Christmas. I was so sad and so dark,” Perri said then. “We’re almost made to pretend it’s not happening, like, ‘It’s fine. I’ve got this.’”

In fact, Perri said that after her struggle on social media, more than 15,000 mothers reached out over Instagram, sending messages of support. “What really helped was talking about it,” she said. “It was just overwhelming. It made me feel so much better. All the women said ‘me too, me too, me too’ and really got me through it. I’ve got my mommy tribe that got bigger because of that.”

Perri and Costabile got married in December 2017. Following the wedding, Costabile had shared on Instagram, “Today I married my dream girl and best friend. Pretty sure I’m the proudest I’ve EVER been to be able to call the most bellissima person + woman I’ve ever known now my wife!!!"

"I thank God for the gift of her, our relationship, our bambino on the way, our family's love and support, and this unforgettable year," he continued. While Perri wrote on her Instagram account, “On this day four years ago, we met. Today, WE GOT MARRIED!!!”

Perri and Costabile reportedly met in 2013 in a green room, where Perri was being interviewed. According to Costabile, he knew he wanted to marry her right then and there.

"I knew I wanted to ask this girl to marry me the day she walked into the green screen for an interview almost four years ago. I finally asked her right here tonight and she said yes," he wrote on Instagram in June 2017, after proposing to her.
