KYOTO, JAPAN: Apple TV+, renowned for its extensive collection of mystery and sci-fi series, is set to expand its lineup with 'Sunny', a new show that offers a stellar combination of mystery and dark humor.

The official synopsis for 'Sunny' reads, "The life of an American woman living in Kyoto, Japan, is upended when her husband and son disappear in a mysterious plane crash. As consolation, she's given Sunny, one of a new class of domestic robots made by her husband's electronic company."

'Sunny' is a television adaptation of 'The Dark Manual', a 2018 novel by Colin O'Sullivan. The intense series is backed by a strong cast, ready to win your hearts with their compelling performances.

American actress Rashida Jones takes on the lead role of Suzie Sakamoto in Apple TV+'s 'Sunny'.

Jones rose to fame with her roles as Louisa Fenn in Fox's 'Boston Public' (2000–2002) and as Karen Filippelli in the NBC series 'The Office'. She has also appeared on NBC's 'Parks and Recreation' and TBS comedy series 'Angie Tribeca'.

Her filmography includes 'Cop Out', 'The Social Network', and 'Monogamy'.

Hidetoshi Nishijima as Masa Sakamoto

Japanese actor and model Hidetoshi Nishijima will appear as Masa Sakamoto, a roboticist and husband of Suzie in 'Sunny'.

Nishijima gained international recognition for his critically acclaimed leading role in the 2021 film ‘Drive My Car’, for which he received the Japan Academy Film Prize for Best Actor.

The popular star is known for appearing in TV shows such as 'General Rouge no Gaisen', 'Boku to Star no 99 Nichi' and 'Yae no Sakura'.

In 2022, he appeared as Kotaro Minami in 'Kamen Rider Black Sun', released on Prime Video on the occasion of fifteenth anniversary of the 'Kamen Rider Series'. This film is a reimagination of 1987's 'Kamen Rider Black'.

Joanna Sotomura, known for her work on Emmy Award-winning 'Emma Approved' lends her voice to titular character 'Sunny', a domestic robot.

Sotomura's other notable works includes 'Madison County' (2011) and 'Everything Before Us' (2015).

annie the clumsy is a Japan-based singer and songwriter who garnered attention for making songs with her ukulele since 2011. She runs her own YouTube channel where she does random, clumsy stuff.

She also composes, writes and sings songs for Japanese TV & web commercials.

Jun Kunimura is a Japanese actor best known for starring in Na Hong-jin's Korean horror film 'The Wailing', which earned him popular acclaim and Best Supporting Actor and the Popular Star Award at the 37th Blue Dragon Film Awards.

The 68-year-old actor plays the role of a roboticist named Yuki Tanaka in Apple TV+'s 'Sunny'.

How to stream 'Sunny'?

The first two episodes of 'Sunny' will premiere on July 10, 2024. The series will then follow a weekly release pattern wherein a fresh episode will drop on Apple TV+ every Wednesday.

'Sunny' will conclude its run with Episode 10, scheduled to drop on September 4, 2024. It will be available to stream exclusively on Apple TV+.
