Who is Ms Dime? Here's why 'Beyond the Pole' star Nefertiti Banks quit as a 'boujee dancer'
From Jennifer Lopez in 'Hustlers' to Demi Moore in 'Striptease', several A-list actors tried to give the audience a peek into the intriguing life of a stripper. Considering the popularity of reality shows, it was just a matter of time before the small-screen too gave us a peek into the lives of strippers, just like its big-screen counterpart. So WE tv's upcoming show 'Beyond the Pole' will be doing just that.
The show follows the lives of a few strippers working in Atlanta, as they try to break away from their career as a dancer. One of the stars on the show is Ms Dime. Unlike many of her fellow stars who are still struggling to leave their life of a dancer behind, Ms. Dime managed to not only retire from her career as a 'boujee dancer', but also is well on her way to launch her own business. Who is Ms Dime?
Ms Dime aka Nefertiti Banks is a 35-year-old woman who worked as a dancer for eight years. She was studying at a college and working in a hospital. Unfortunately, her job at the hospital wasn't paying enough for her to pay the bills. So, at the age of 22, 'Beyond the Pole' star took to the pole to earn some extra money.
In an interview with The Atlanta Journal Consitution, she revealed her story. "I was living a double life. My family did not know that I was a dancer. They only knew I worked at a hospital and went to college. But the jobs I had weren’t paying the bills. I had a small daughter at the time. One day, I just went and decided to try dancing. You are an independent contractor, and you can come and go as you please.”
She also added that it was all fun and exciting in the beginning, but eventually, she began wondering about her next step. She said, "It was fun. It was exciting making all that money with no worries in the world. You get older. What’s next? It became more of a headache to me. I didn’t want to be in that environment anymore. I felt it messed up my relationships with boyfriends. It became very stressful to keep doing it, so I stopped.”
She currently works as a trucker dispatcher. Thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic, had to return to the club. But this time around not as a dancer but as a bartender. She intends on saving up enough money by working as a bartender so that she can launch her trucking business. In an interview with Page Six, Ms Dime shared her advice to young girls on how they too can step away from dancing. She explained, "My advice is to mostly save up most of their money. When I was dancing, I was young so when the money came in, I was spending it. I didn’t really have a plan, so my advice is, always save your money, come up with a plan.”
We will have to watch the show to see if Ms Dime manages to accomplish her goals.
'Beyond the Pole' Season 2 premieres on Thursday, June 3, at 10/9c on WE tv. For more information, check your local listings.
