'A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms': We're sure you missed this 'Marvel' villain actor linked to Thanos
The 'Game of Thrones' franchise is progressing by leaps and bounds with its most recent spinoff show, 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms', rapidly heading towards its finale episode. Scheduled to air on Sunday, February 22, on HBO Max, the sixth and final episode of the spinoff show will allow 'GoT' fans to take in the sights of Westeros a final time before Season 2 arrives sometime in 2027. Aside from Peter Claffey's remarkable performance as the valiant knight Ser Duncan the Tall and Dexter Sol Ansell as his diminutive squire, Egg, 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' also features a Marvel villain in a supporting role.
In particular, the show is set against the backdrop of the Ashford Tourney. While Paul Hunter portrays Lord Ashford, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor portrays his steward, Plummer. The latter appeared on three episodes of 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms'. Even though the actor appears sporting a significantly altered persona aided by the use of CGI and donning heavy armour, eagle-eyed Marvel fans would be able to remember Vaughan-Lawlor as Ebony Maw, one of Thanos's henchmen from 'Avengers: Infinity War'.
As per Marvel Cinematic Universe lore, Maw was a formidable member of an alien race and appeared for the first time on Marvel Comics 'Infinity' #1 in 2013. He was recruited by Thanos to aid him in his grand plan to gather all the Infinity Stones and thereby exterminate half of humanity in the process. Maw met his demise in 'Avengers: Infinity War' but was resurrected in 'Avengers: Endgame' due to time travel that separated the two films. Elsewhere, the character played an important role in Marvel's 'Secret Invasion', wherein he helped bring the Super Skrull to life. Vaughn-Lawlor donned his characteristic grey-skinned costume for the films and was depicted as ultimately dying a hero's death in 'Avengers: Endgame'. He voiced the character himself and performed the gestures and maneuvers, which were then captured by motion capture. All in all, Vaughan-Lawlor has the rare distinction of serving as a conduit that unites both MCU fans and 'GoT' fans.
'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' also stars Finn Bennett as Aerion Tagaryen, Henry Ashton as Daeron Targaryen, Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle, and Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon. The fan-favourite character Baelor Targaryen, played by Bertie Carvel, met his unexpected end in the previously aired fifth episode of the show, which is exclusively available on HBO Max.
