'The Housemaid's Secret,' the sequel to the popular movie 'The Housemaid,' has made a powerful addition to its cast. Kirsten Dunst will co-lead the heavily anticipated movie alongside Sydney Sweeney, who is set to reprise her role from 'The Housemaid.' The movie was a resounding success for Lionsgate in 2025, grossing nearly $400 million at the global box office. After the success, Lionsgate quickly started to look for another A-lister who could join forces with Sweeney to make the sequel memorable. After several meetings, executives and producers decided to go with Dunst. 'The Housemaid's Secret' will follow the second book of the 'Housemaid' series, penned by Freida McFadden.

Dunst will portray Mrs. Wendy Garrick, who will employ Sweeney’s character, Millie Calloway. As per Variety, Erin Westerman, President of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said, “It is a privilege to bring The Housemaid’s next chapter to the screen with Kirsten Dunst. She is an icon. Her career reflects an extraordinary range and fearlessness.” She added, “Opposite the ever-magnetic Sydney Sweeney, she will be an electrifying force in a world where nothing is ever quite as it seems.” Apart from Sweeney, Michele Morrone is also set to reprise his role as Enzo from the first movie. Director Paul Feig and screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine will also come back for the sequel.

After the announcement, Sweeney expressed her excitement about the new addition in her March 23 Instagram story as she shared the news. The 2023 book, on which the sequel is based, centers around Calloway (Sweeney), who works for a woman she is not allowed to see. While PEOPLE reported that Lionsgate will start production on the sequel sometime in 2026, the movie still does not have a release date. Amanda Seyfried is also eyeing a cameo in the movie. The sequel moves away from her character, Nina Winchester, but the actress remains positive about the situation. "I almost guarantee that I'm gonna be some small cameo in it,” the Oscar nominee told Variety. "I will jump the f--- back into that," she added. McFadden also hopes for Seyfried's comeback in the sequel, as per E! News. "Even though she's not in the movie, I'm hoping Amanda Seyfried, if she's free, can at least do a cameo, because I would love to see her come back," she stated. "She was such a star in the movie, and I'd love her to play some small part in it. That would be really cool."
