The latest episode of ‘American Idol’ Season 24 brought excitement, nerves, and a couple of tough goodbyes as the competition got more intense. The April 13 episode leaned into a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame theme, and by the time the credits rolled, the Top 11 had been trimmed further as two contestants were sent home. The evening kicked off with a moment that felt like a mini concert. Billy Idol and judge Carrie Underwood teamed up for a surprise duet of ‘Rebel Yell’, and it set the tone for the episode right away.

The Top 11 singers were each assigned songs related to legendary Rock & Roll Hall of Fame artists. Helping the contestants figure out how to tackle such iconic songs were Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo. The duo, known for both their music and their long-time partnership, stepped in as mentors. They didn’t just hand out easy compliments either; they pushed the singers to connect with the material and not just copy what’s already been done. The song choices ranged from soulful classics to full-on glam rock.

Some contestants went for smooth, crowd-pleasing numbers like ‘Signed, Sealed Delivered (I’m Yours)’, while others took risks with more theatrical picks like ‘Bennie and the Jets’. A few performances really landed, getting nods of approval from the judges. Feedback for others was a bit more mixed. Speaking of judges, the panel, including Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie, had plenty to say throughout the night. Meanwhile, viewers at home had the power to shape the outcome, voting in real time for their favorites. That always adds a bit of unpredictability to the show. Someone who seemed safe might not be, and someone who had a shaky start could bounce back with strong fan support.

By the end of the episode, host Ryan Seacrest stepped forward to deliver the results. One by one, he announced the contestants who would continue on the journey. The contestants revealed as part of the Top 9 were Brooks, Daniel Stallworth, Braden Rumfelt, Lucas Leon, Jordan McCullough, Hannah Harper, Keyla Richardson, Chris Tungseth, and Kyndal Inskeep. That left two singers standing on stage, waiting for their fate to be sealed. In the end, Rae and Philmon Lee were eliminated and had to step off the stage. With the competition now down to nine finalists, the pressure is only going to build from here. Next week, the remaining contestants will be back as they try to get closer to the finale.
