How Bombsight's reference in 'The Boys' Season 5 Episode 4 sets up upcoming spinoff 'Vought Rising'

'The Boys' Season 5 has been teasing the upcoming prequel 'Vought Rising' for two episodes now. If episode 3 hinted at the spinoff starring Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) along with Stormfront (Aya Cash), the latest episode added another name in the mix. Bombsight (played by 'Stranger Things' star Mason Dye) is one of the latest entrants to the mix and will be seen in the prequel. Also in the mix are Torpedo (Will Hochman) and Private Angel (Elizabeth Posey). As previously explained by Dr. Sameer Shah (Omid Abtahi) and Sister Sage (Susan Heyward), all five supes were the first successful test subjects of V1, the first version of Compound V. It was revealed that the serum was 10 times more potent than the present iteration.
Stormfront was later rebranded as Liberty during the events of 'The Boys' Season 2. Known as Clara Vought, the wife of Nazi Vought founder Frederick Vought, she was the first test subject to survive. In the latest episode, Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and MM (Laz Alonso) deduce that the remaining vial of V1 may be with Bombsight after their mission to Fort Harmony to find the serum proved futile. They find out that one of the containers was punched heavily, and its contents are now in possession of another supe, presumably Bombsight. While the character is yet to make his appearance in Season 5, the mentions of all the old supes set up 'Vought Rising'.
Starring alongside Ackles, Dye, and Cash are Hochman, KiKi Layne, Jorden Myrie, Nicolo Pasetti, Posey, Ricky Staffieri, and Brian J. Smith. Ackles and Cash also serve as the producers. Paul Grellong serves as the showrunner and executive producer (EP). The EP list comprises Eric Kripke, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Ori Marmur, Ken Levin, Jason Netter, Garth Ennis, Darick Robertson, Phil Sgriccia, Jim Barnes, Mark Winemaker, and Michaela Starr.
In related news, Kripke teased the prequel during his interview with EW. "It's a murder-mystery," he said, "and it's got that noir-ish — not Black Noir, but actual noir — movin' through the streets and femme fatales and detectives, but also heroin dens and gay bars and pill-popping and famous people. So it's got a real, learned, fun, pulpy vibe that gives it its own energy. It feels like a Pulp Fiction-y kind of mystery story." At the time of writing, no official release date has been set for the spin-off. In the meantime, fans can catch Seasons 1-5 of 'The Boys' on Prime Video.
