'Supergirl' Season 5: Will Kara thwart Leviathan's sinister plans or will the story arc continue next season?

Assuming Lena continues to give Kara the cold shoulder and work with Lex, Kara would have to face a three-headed monster: Lex, Lena and Leviathan

It's going to be a while before we see our Girl Of Steel zoom back into action. 'Supergirl' returns only on May 3 and till then we just have to wonder what is going to happen in the Arrowverse series. Comparatively lighter in tone to previous seasons, Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist) still has a lot of dark stuff on her plate.

For starters, the terror group Leviathan is still lurking around and is growing more sinister by the day. In a flashback episode, it was revealed that they had use for Andrea Rojas (Julie Gonzalo), who turned out to be Acrata.

Under the promise of ensuring welfare for her father and their business, they told her to keep the Medallion Of Acrata, which Lena had been hunting for. And then, they killed Andrea's boyfriend in a rather cold turn of events. The organization seemed sinister, deadly and oddly mysterious.

They're an alien race who crashed on Earth, millions of years ago and now, they're just sick of humans running the planet, we learned. Though we were told about the origin story several episodes ago, the multiversal Crisis knocked us off our feet for a while.

And when the world was brought back to normal (with Lex Luthor as the hero), Leviathan remained eerily in the background, while Kara battled evil doppelgangers and was busy altering timelines in the hope of saving her friendship with Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath).

Leviathan seems to be building up as the big bad for the season and is gradually gaining its prominence again. The old lady has been busy wrapping dead bodies like burritos, one of them being Alex Danvers' (Chyler Leigh) father Jeremiah.

Lex Luthor wants to bring down Leviathan, but for his own reasons. Of course, when Lex is involved, nothing is straightforward and simple. In fact, in the next episode, he plans to pit Leviathan and Supergirl against each other, while slowly winning Lena's trust back.

Assuming Lena continues to give Kara the cold shoulder and work with Lex, Kara would have to face a three-headed monster: Lex, Lena and Leviathan. If she reconciles with Lena by that time, there's still hope that she can destroy both Lex and Leviathan.

However, there's a reason why Leviathan has been carefully teased throughout the season. This gang of cold-blooded aliens will not go down without a fight, Kara needs all the support so she can get to have an epic face-off with them. Does she stand a chance in defeating Leviathan? Or will Leviathan be carried over to Season 6?

'Supergirl' airs on The CW on Sundays at 9 pm.
