'The Boys' showrunner finally reveals a major update on Mexico spinoff: 'But it feels like...'
'The Boys' spinoff show, 'The Boys: Mexico,' has been in development for three years since its initial announcement, and an exciting update about its future is finally available now. Set against the backdrop of Mexico, the spinoff of the original popular Prime Video show is being written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer of 'Blue Beetle' fame. Gael García Bernal serves as the executive producer, in association with Diego Luna. Eric Kripke, the showrunner of the original series, is said to be on board with the production of the upcoming spinoff. Kripke had previously revealed that there's a considerable possibility for the characters from the original series to show up on the spinoff.
Speaking in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kripke opened up about his plans for the impending fifth and final season of 'The Boys,' alongside shedding light on the development of the spinoff. Kripke further revealed that a draft of the pilot episode of 'The Boys: Mexico' had been finalized and submitted to the executives from Prime Video. Receiving a favorable reaction from Amazon, the production team is now incorporating the streaming platform's feedback in the process of ironing out the final screenplay. Kripke also mentioned that Dunnet-Alcocer is working on another draft as well.
Kripke noted, "Yeah. They just delivered a draft of the pilot to Amazon. Amazon seemed to really like it and seemed to be making all the right noises. They gave some notes, so we're gonna incorporate those notes. Gareth (Dunnet-Alcocer), who is the writer, is so smart and good. He'll do, I'm sure, another draft. But it feels like...who the hell knows? You can never predict this stuff, but we're hopeful." As is widely known, the events of the Mexico based spinoff will be taking place long after the conclusion of the upcoming fifth season of the original show. It is fair to say that the ultimate fates of Vought and Homelander will come to play a determining role in the narrative framework of the spinoff. Additionally, 'The Boys: Mexico' will extend the exploits of the supes far beyond the confines of the United States.
Apart from 'The Boys: Mexico,' the franchise is poised to extend via two other offshoots. The college-set spinoff 'Gen V' has already aired two seasons, with the jury still being out on the Season 3 confirmation. On the other hand, the prequel series 'Vought Rising' is speculated to be in an undefined stage of development. 'Vought Rising' is expected to release sometime in 2027 and is set in the 1950s with Aya Cash reprising her character of Stormfront and Jensen Ackles returning to play Soldier Boy. 'The Boys' season five premieres with a two episode launch on Wednesday on Prime Video.
