'The Boys' recap: From Homelander's wrath to Butcher's new version— Everything to remember before Season 5
Fans were devastated when they got to know that 'The Boys' will end with Season 5. Though the universe will continue with the spinoff 'Gen V,' it is speculated that the saga of Homelander, which has captivated the world for a decade, will come to a close. The first two episodes of the final season are set to air on Prime Video on Wednesday. After that, episodes will be released weekly every Wednesday. The final season will have five episodes, as Eric Kripke has built an exhaustive and detailed universe. Before stepping back into it, even long-time fans may need a recap. Read on to find out what everyone's favorite Supes and Boys were up to at the end of the fourth season.
Right from the pilot episode, it was evident that the Supes weren't as virtuous as they were promoted to be. Their leader, Homelander, gave up on the rescue of a flight full of passengers and even forced them to accept their death by ironically threatening them with their lives. Throughout the four seasons, viewers see these 'superheroes' grow increasingly sinister. They try their best to keep the facade alive and enjoy the benefits.
The terrifying group is seemingly invincible, with only 'The Boys' standing in their way. Season 4 showcased a battle of control between Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and Homelander (Antony Starr), the leaders of the Boys and Supes, respectively. The latter decided to ally with the smartest Supe: Sister Sage (Susan Heyward) in his quest for global power. They turned out to be a dream team, managing to establish control over the US government.
Sister Sage ends the season by asking Homelander to take their collaboration even further. She asks Homelander to put into effect a 'grand plan' she concocted, which will grant him even more power. This grand plan remained under wraps in the fourth outing and may shatter everything in the upcoming last season. Furthermore, Homelander imposed martial law on rebellious supes who were threatening his established status quo. A-Train (Jessie T. Usher) went into hiding, knowing he is one of Homelander's main targets due to his conspiring activities with The Boys. Ashley (Colby Minifie) injected Compound-V to stop feeling any pain, fearing the retaliation coming her way for helping A-Train.
Homelander also used his powers to crack down on The Boys. To escape the sadistic Supes' wrath, the titular group decided to go their separate ways. Unfortunately, only a few were able to escape Homelander's grasp, like Starlight (Erin Moriarty). Most of the members, including Hughie (Jack Quaid), MM (Laz Alonso), Frenchie (Tomer Capone), and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara), were trapped and seemingly heading towards a fate worse than death.
Homelander also makes a startling discovery: his father, Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles), is alive. He is just in a deep sleep. Billy is not going down without a fight. By the end of Season 4, he had managed to kill politician Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) through his terrifying powers. He will possibly begin Season 5 after pursuing a virus capable of wiping out supes once and for all. The final season will finally reveal the answer viewers have been looking for years- Who will come out on top, the menacing Supes or the reckless Boys?
