Ever since Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson brought their vision of the Caped Crusader to the big screen with 'The Batman' in March 2022, fans have been waiting patiently for a sequel. 'The Batman: Part II' was announced a month later in April, with Reeves set to direct and co-write the script alongside Mattson Tomlin. But over the last few years, fans have received only sparse updates on its progress. After a long delay, the much-anticipated follow-up was given a theatrical release date - October 1, 2027. Although it's more than a year away, Pattinson has built anticipation around the sequel by revealing exciting details about the script and production of Part II.

At the premiere of his latest film, 'The Drama,' Pattinson shared an update about the second installment in the franchise. The 39-year-old star praised the script while speaking to Deadline. "I mean, the script is like, extraordinary. I think it’s going to be a really, really special film," he said. He also teased that the creative team has planned some great things for the sequel, which will be "very different" from the original film. "It’s going to be interesting seeing it come out. It’s taking some big swings," he promised. When asked when production would start, Pattinson revealed it would be a "couple months" before he steps into the iconic Batman costume.

In the sequel, Pattinson will be back as Batman/Bruce Wayne, alongside Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as Oz/The Penguin. Barry Keoghan, who made a cameo appearance as the Joker, will also have an extended role in the second chapter. Moreover, Sebastian Stan is reportedly finalizing the deal to star as Harvey Dent, while Scarlett Johansson is also in talks to appear in an undisclosed role. Part II will pick up the story in Gotham after the events of 'The Batman' and the spin-off HBO series, 'The Penguin.' Batman's alter ego, Bruce Wayne, will be the focus of the sequel and will find himself delving deeper into the corruption and division plaguing Gotham City.

Despite Part II being announced four years ago, production has not begun yet and could kick off in May this year. The project experienced several delays due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes. During this time, Reeves kept developing the script and completed it with Tomlin in June 2025. Filming is set to take place at the Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden and Liverpool, England, and Glasgow, Scotland.
