‘Stranger Things’ finale expands theatrical release with more locations — here’s how you can grab your tickets
The premiere of the finale episode of 'Stranger Things' season 5 was already supposed to be a grand event with theatrical locations set to project the episode simultaneously as it drops on Netflix. Now, as fate would have it, the show's final episode just got bigger and better as more theatrical locations are added to the roster. This comes after a hugely positive response on the part of the audience, which has been booking seats for the screening en masse and at a remarkable speed.
Deadline previously carried out reported that 'Stranger Things' season 5 finale episode will be screened across 350 theatres all over Canada and the U.S. Soon after the booking commenced earlier this December, RSVPs came in by the thousands, and several show timings were already close to being houseful. Taking this evolving situation into view, and as of this writing, Deadline has confirmed that a total of more than 620 theatres will be screening the show's finale episode starting December 31, 2025, through January 1, 2026.
The news came from Ross Duffer, one-half of the show's creator-duo, who recently took to his Instagram handle to announce, "Over 1.1 million of you have already RSVPed to the finale screenings on NYE and New Year’s Day, and more than 3,500 showtimes across 620+ theaters are already full. What a way to close out a ten-year journey—together. Maybe we'll see some of you in LA." The statement further suggests that while the Duffer Brothers might visit a few screenings across Los Angeles, the attendance of the full cast might be difficult to achieve.
The screenings themselves won't rake in revenues that would have an official box-office tally. Instead, the admission amounts will be converted and processed into concession vouchers for the theatres. The prominent theatre chains that will host the screenings include Megaplex, Cineplex, Harkins, Landmark, Alamo, and Marcus, apart from the usual big-banner chains like AMC, Cinemark and Regal. MovieWeb reports that a special screening for the ensemble cast of the Netflix show was recently organized at the Paris Theatre in New York City. Millie Bobby Brown, the popular actress who plays Eleven on the show, was conspicuous by her absence.
Although initially speculated to be a consequence of her recent complaints against bullying on the sets of the show, the outlet explained that Brown couldn't attend the screening due to another valid reason. The impending finale will chalk up to more than two hours in duration, and as per the recently released trailer from Netflix, is speculated to feature a heart-wrenching emotional showdown, one that might end with tears. This is suggested by Hopper's plea to Eleven from the trailer, when he says, "Fight for the days on the other side of this. Fight for a world beyond Hawkins. Let’s end this, kid.”
