'Chicago' and '9-1-1' series return with explosive crossover episodes and we're in for a major event
Long-running procedural staples — the 'One Chicago' and the '9-1-1' series are set to return with a bang. It was a quiet February with the broadcast shows on break or airing reruns due to the 2026 Winter Olympics. Now, all marquee shows on NBC, ABC, and Fox return with new episodes. Furthermore, fans of the aforementioned franchises have every reason to stay hyped with two major crossover events kicking off. NBC returns with a three-show crossover with the 'Chicago' shows, while ABC gears up for its first crossover between '9-1-1' and '9-1-1: Nashville'. These two crossovers air just under 24 hours apart, marking a solid midweek bonanza for viewers.
'Chicago Fire', 'Chicago Med', and 'Chicago PD' casts return for a crossover as Firehouse 51, Intelligence, and Gaffney Clinic link up to confront a major crisis. The episode follows Firehouse 51 as it responds to a mid-air emergency involving a passenger jet, only to discover a larger conspiracy. Jesse Lee Soffer and Tracy Spiridakos will reprise their roles as Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton in the crossover chapter. Episode 13 is titled 'Meant to Be'. The official logline reads, "Firehouse 51 is called to an airfield when a passenger jet suddenly goes silent mid-air, triggering a high-stakes emergency … Their discovery cracks open a bigger and deadlier mystery — one with consequences that could ripple far beyond the runway and put countless lives in jeopardy."
The network's crossover of '9-1-1' and '9-1-1: Nashville' will be a tad smaller than the 'One Chicago' shows, but it will surely pack a punch. '9-1-1' episode 12's logline reads, "Maddie and Buck are blindsided by some unexpected news that turns their world upside down; Buck and Eddie head to Nashville when they are selected to participate in the national firefighting games." The synopsis of episode 12 of 'Nashville' reads "Buck and Eddie head to Nashville for the games. Tensions rise as Ryan (Michael Provost) and Don (Chris O’Donnell) show their competitive sides. When Don injures his hand, Blue (Hunter McVey) is forced to step into the competition for him."
In related news, '9-1-1' star Oliver Stark teased the crossover in an earlier interview with Deadline. "Buck’s going. Buck and Eddie are going, we’ll actually be there for episode 12. I can say that much. Oh yeah, we’re going. I can’t tell you why we’re going. But it’s a good time." Safe to say, both franchises, with their upcoming crossovers, are expected to change the shows' trajectory after they resume regular coverage from next week. The aftermath of these crossover chapters will have major ramifications on character arcs moving forward. On the timing front, 'Chicago Fire' starts the proceedings at 8 p.m. ET, followed by 'Med' at 9 p.m. ET and 'P.D.' at 10 p.m. ET, during its usual One Chicago Wednesday block on NBC. On Thursday, 'Nashville' starts 9 p.m. ET (5 p.m. PT) on ABC right after '9-1-1' at 8 p.m. ET.
